Campgrounds near Amory, Mississippi
Amory sits in Monroe County in northeast Mississippi along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, putting RV travelers within reach of a state park, several private RV parks, and waterway-adjacent sites. Smithville Marina Campground is the closest option, located on the Tenn-Tom Waterway just north of Amory in the small town of Smithville. North of town near Tupelo, Tombigbee State Park surrounds Lake Lee, a 90-acre fishing lake, and offers a small loop of paved sites with electric and water hookups, most of which also have sewer. Pine Acres RV Park and Natchez Trace RV Park provide additional full-hookup options in the surrounding area, and Campgrounds at Barnes Crossing sits on the outskirts of Tupelo near shopping and dining at the Mall at Barnes Crossing. The mix of waterway, state park, and private grounds makes the area workable for families, anglers running boats on the Tenn-Tom, and travelers using Amory as a base for the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Things to do near Amory
The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway is the headline draw. Anglers target bass, crappie, and catfish along the river system, and Smithville Marina Campground sits directly on the water with marina access for boaters. Tombigbee State Park is centered on 90-acre Lake Lee, where Mississippi-licensed anglers fish for bass, bream, and catfish stocked by the state. The park has a boat launch (trolling speed only, with no skiing or swimming permitted), a 1.2-mile walking-only nature trail suitable for younger kids, two disc golf courses, and a playground. Tupelo, roughly 30 minutes north, anchors the area with the Elvis Presley Birthplace, the Natchez Trace Parkway headquarters and visitor center, and the Mall at Barnes Crossing for resupply, laundry, and restaurants close to the campground there.

Northeast Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Spring, from March through May, is a popular stretch for camping but also the peak severe-weather window. The region sits in the southeastern tornado corridor, and Monroe County has been struck by major tornadoes, including the EF5 Smithville tornado of April 27, 2011 and the EF3 tornado that tore through Amory on March 24, 2023. RV travelers should monitor NWS Memphis watches and warnings closely in March and April and choose sites with sturdy bathhouses or community shelters in mind.
Summer is hot and humid, with July and August highs commonly in the upper 80s to lower 90s F and afternoon thunderstorms frequent. Fall is the most comfortable season for camping: drier, cooler, and far less severe-weather risk. Winters are mild but wet, with January the coldest month and average lows around the mid-30s F; light snow occurs occasionally but rarely lingers. December is typically the wettest month and August the driest, though rain is possible year-round.
How to book campgrounds near Amory
Reservation systems vary by operator. Tombigbee State Park takes bookings through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks reservation system, with sites available up to 12 months in advance and reservations recommended during peak season due to the small 20-site loop. Eighteen of those sites have full hookups, with the remaining two on water and electric only. Corps of Engineers campgrounds along the Tenn-Tom Waterway are booked through Recreation.gov. Smithville Marina Campground takes reservations directly through the marina. Private parks including Pine Acres RV Park, Natchez Trace RV Park, and Campgrounds at Barnes Crossing typically accept phone or online reservations directly through each property. Book spring weekends and holiday periods well ahead, since capacity in the area is limited.
What to expect
Sites in this part of Mississippi tend to be flat, paved or gravel, and reasonably big-rig friendly, with the lake-adjacent grounds offering shaded sites under hardwoods. Tombigbee State Park has a small loop of 20 paved back-in sites with picnic tables, grills, and fire rings, a dump station on the main park road, and a bathhouse with showers and laundry. Smithville Marina Campground sits on the Tenn-Tom Waterway with marina access. Cell coverage is generally usable in Amory, Smithville, and around Tupelo but can drop in wooded river bottoms. Expect biting insects from late spring through early fall and bring repellent. Grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest in Tupelo, where the Mall at Barnes Crossing area concentrates most national retailers and restaurants.

Booking with confidence is the whole point: RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy to every reservation, including a full money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates without stress. Refund outcomes depend on how far out you cancel, with set timelines that apply consistently across every listing. Because RVezy (not the host) manages the cancellation policy, the process is the same whichever RV you choose. Pro tip: book early to grab the best Amory rigs, then use the grace period to confirm campground reservations before everything is final.

Absolutely, many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Amory, MS, and you can find them in seconds by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. Some owners welcome dogs with no extra fee, while others charge a small pet cleaning fee that is clearly listed on the booking page. Once you arrive, your pup will love Frisco Park along the Tombigbee or the trails at Tombigbee State Park near Tupelo, both leash-friendly. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Amory%2C%20MississippiCan the RV be delivered and set up for me in Amory?
Yes, RV delivery in Amory is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many Amory-area hosts deliver to popular spots like Blue Bluff Recreation Area in Aberdeen, Tombigbee State Park, or a private driveway in town, then level the rig, connect water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are set by the host and depend on distance, so closer destinations are cheaper. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy and ask about a full setup package so all you have to do is unpack the cooler and relax.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Amory%2C%20MississippiHow far can I travel from Amory and what are popular road trip routes?
Amory is a fantastic launchpad for an RV road trip from Amory across the Deep South. The Natchez Trace Parkway is just 30 miles west at Tupelo (great for a slow, scenic drive with no commercial traffic), Tishomingo State Park is about 55 miles north for sandstone bluffs and Bear Creek, Memphis sits 175 miles northwest for BBQ and Beale Street, and the Gulf Coast at Gulf Shores, Alabama is around 360 miles south. Mileage policies vary by host, but many Amory listings offer 100 to 150 free miles per night and some advertise RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask the host about a mileage add-on bundle when booking a longer route.
nps.gov/natr/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Amory, MS?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Amory. The closest favorites include Blue Bluff Recreation Area in Aberdeen (a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park right on the Tenn-Tom Waterway with full hookups), Tombigbee State Park about 30 miles west near Tupelo (lakeside sites and shaded loops), Trace State Park near Belden (great fishing and easy Natchez Trace access), Whitten Park Campground in Fulton (Corps-run, big rig friendly), and Piney Grove Campground at Bay Springs Lake. Pro tip: Corps of Engineers campgrounds book up fast on summer weekends, so reserve through Recreation.gov six months out for the best waterfront sites.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725When is the best time to take an RV trip in Amory?
Amory's sweet spot for RV camping is mid-March through May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80 degree range and humidity drops noticeably. Summers are long and hot with July and August averaging 91 degrees and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so plan for early morning hikes and evening campfires. Winters are mild (highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s) and many campgrounds stay open year-round. Pro tip: visit during the Amory Railroad Festival in late April, a beloved local event with live music and food, and book your RV at least two months early because rigs go fast that weekend.
weather.gov/meg/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a full pre-trip walkthrough of the rig at pickup, covering driving tips, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, the propane system, and waste tanks, and they're a phone call away during your trip. Most renters in Amory choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer, which drive much like a large pickup. The roads around Amory are flat, two-lane state highways like US-278 and MS-25 with light traffic, so it's a forgiving place to find your sea legs. Pro tip: choose Delivery to skip the highway drive entirely on day one.
mdot.ms.gov/portal/home.aspxWhat if I have a breakdown or roadside emergency during my trip?
Take a deep breath, because every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, at no extra charge. One phone call gets you help for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, or towing, anywhere from downtown Amory to a remote forest road near Bay Springs Lake. The nearest full-service RV dealers and repair shops are in Tupelo (about 30 miles west) and Columbus (about 45 miles south), and the local hospital is North Mississippi Medical Center Gilmore-Amory right in town. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number to your phone before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada from Amory?
Yes, interstate travel is fully allowed on RVezy rentals, so an Amory base makes it easy to explore Alabama, Tennessee, and beyond. Cross into Tuscaloosa for a college football weekend (110 miles east), Nashville for honky-tonks (260 miles north), or the Smokies for cool-mountain camping (375 miles northeast). Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval and added insurance steps, so message the host directly from the listing if that's part of your plan. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy booking because insurance does not extend there. Pro tip: confirm your route with the host before booking longer multi-state trips.
cbp.gov/travelHow much should I budget for fuel on my Amory RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's manageable around Amory. Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 MPG, and travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle's mileage by 20 to 30 percent. Gas prices in Mississippi are consistently among the lowest in the country, often 30 to 50 cents below the national average, and you'll find easy diesel and gas stops along US-278 and US-45. Pro tip: fill up in Amory or Aberdeen before heading toward the Natchez Trace Parkway, where commercial fuel stations are not permitted along the parkway itself.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Amory?
For the best sites, book your campground at the same time you book your RV. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks along the Tenn-Tom Waterway like Blue Bluff, Whitten Park, and Piney Grove release reservations up to six months ahead through Recreation.gov, and waterfront sites for summer holiday weekends often fill within hours. Mississippi State Parks like Tombigbee and Trace use the ReserveAmerica system and can be booked up to 12 months out. For shoulder season weekday trips you can often walk up to less-popular parks. Pro tip: reserve Friday and Saturday first, then add weekday nights, since weekends are the bottleneck.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Amory?
Driving an RV around Amory is refreshingly low-stress. The terrain is gently rolling with no mountain passes or steep grades, traffic is light outside of Tupelo, and the main routes (US-278, US-45, and MS-25) are wide two-lane and four-lane highways with generous shoulders. Watch for spring and fall thunderstorms that can bring heavy rain and the occasional severe weather warning, and slow down on rural roads at dawn and dusk when deer are active. The Natchez Trace Parkway has a 50 MPH speed limit and bans commercial vehicles, making it perfect for relaxed RV cruising. Pro tip: download an offline map app before you leave, because cell coverage thins out near Bay Springs Lake.
mdottraffic.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Amory?
Most campgrounds near Amory are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Corps of Engineers parks like Blue Bluff and Whitten Park offer 30 and 50 amp electric, water, dump stations, hot showers, and paved or gravel pads, while Mississippi State Parks add laundry, camp stores, and playgrounds. Cell service is generally good on AT&T and Verizon, and many parks now offer free or low-cost Wi-Fi at the bathhouse. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot water hose and a 30-to-50 amp adapter so you're ready for any pedestal configuration.

visitmississippi.org/things-to-do/outdoor-adventureHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, with no cash exchanged between you and the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup (amounts vary by listing, commonly $500 to $1,500) and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkthrough video with the host at pickup and again at dropoff, return the rig with the fuel and propane levels matching the agreement, and dump the tanks if your contract requires it. Pro tip: keep receipts from any campground dump stations as proof.
