Campgrounds and RV parks near Batesville, MS

Fishing drives most trips to this corner of Mississippi. Sardis, Enid, and Grenada lakes are all well known for crappie, with bass, bream, catfish, and white bass also present. Boat ramps, shoreline access, and swimming beaches are standard at the state parks, and Sardis in particular is regarded as the state's most popular angling destination. On land, John W Kyle State Park hosts the 18-hole Mallard Pointe Golf Course, and Hugh White State Park has the Dogwoods Golf Course plus an 18-hole disc golf layout called The Lost Bluff. Short nature trails, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions are available across the state parks, and the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford is roughly 25 miles east for game-day trips. Corps of Engineers land around the reservoirs is also open for hunting in season.

Batesville has a humid subtropical climate. Spring, particularly mid-March through May, and October offer the most comfortable RV weather, with daytime highs in the 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit and lower humidity. These shoulder seasons are also when campground demand climbs, particularly on weekends and around Ole Miss home football dates. Summer is hot and sticky. July and August highs average around 90 degrees with heat indices well above that, though the lakes are open for swimming, skiing, and boating. Book early for holiday weekends, as sites at John W Kyle State Park and George P Cossar State Park fill quickly during peak season, which runs from May through August. Winter camping is possible year-round at the nearby state parks, but note that the Corps of Engineers gradually draws Sardis and Grenada down through fall and winter toward a conservation pool, then allows spring rains to refill the reservoirs. This can leave boat ramps and shoreline sites well back from the water in the colder months.

State park campgrounds around Batesville typically offer paved or gravel pads with water and electric hookups, and many sites at George P Cossar State Park and Hugh White State Park - Outlet Channel include full hookups. Bathhouses with hot showers, dump stations, and laundry facilities are standard. Cell reception is generally reliable on major carriers. Bring an extra water hose and extension cord, as hookup pedestals can sit well off the pad at some loops. Check-in and checkout times are set by each park, so confirm at booking. Pets are allowed at campsites but generally not inside cabins or park buildings, and quiet hours are typically observed from late evening to early morning. Fireworks are prohibited on Corps of Engineers and state park land.
