Campgrounds and RV parks near Bovina, MS

The main draw is Vicksburg National Military Park, an 1,800-acre National Park Service site with more than 1,400 monuments, tablets, and markers, a 16-mile tour road, 20 miles of reconstructed trenches and earthworks, a 12.5-mile hiking trail, and the restored USS Cairo ironclad gunboat and museum. The park is a short drive west of Bovina on I-20. In town, visitors can tour the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum, where Coca-Cola was first bottled in 1894, the Old Court House Museum, the Jacqueline House African American Museum, the Lower Mississippi River Museum, and the Vicksburg riverfront murals. Riverboat casinos line the waterfront for adults. Outdoor options include fishing and boating on the Big Black River, kayaking and fishing on Askew's Landing's on-site lake, and day trips south along the Natchez Trace Parkway to Rocky Springs and Grand Gulf Military Monument.

Vicksburg has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, mild winters, and rain spread across the year. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. From March through May and again in October and November, daytime highs typically run from the upper 60s to the low 80s Fahrenheit, which suits touring the battlefield on foot or by bike. Summer is hot and humid. July and August routinely deliver highs in the low 90s with high dew points and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so shaded sites, functioning air conditioning, and early-morning outdoor plans matter. This period also overlaps the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June through November and can push heavy rain bands inland from the Gulf. Winter is short and generally mild, with daytime highs often in the mid-50s and overnight lows around 40. December and January are among the wetter months, and freezing nights do occur, so RV travelers should be ready to disconnect and drain water lines during hard freezes. Snow is rare and usually light when it happens.

Terrain around Bovina is rolling loess bluff country with hardwood forest, red-clay soils, and small creeks draining toward the Big Black and Mississippi rivers. Sites at the local RV parks are generally level with gravel or paved pads, and most cater primarily to RVs rather than tent campers. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are common at Clear Creek, Ameristar, Quilly's Magnolia, and Askew's Landing. Cell service is generally strong along the I-20 corridor. Big rigs can reach every park on the list via paved highway, though final approach roads can be soft after heavy rain. Expect humidity, mosquitoes in the warm months, and occasional deer and other wildlife wandering through wooded parks. There is no camping inside Vicksburg National Military Park itself, so plan to base at one of the nearby private campgrounds and drive in.
