Campgrounds and RV parks near Como, MS

Sardis Lake and Enid Lake dominate outdoor recreation in the area. Both reservoirs support crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish, and Enid Lake is known as the site of a world-record crappie catch. Boat ramps, swim beaches, and picnic areas are available at John W Kyle State Park and George P Cossar State Park, and both parks include playgrounds for kids. On land, John W Kyle features an 18-hole disc golf course, a swimming pool, tennis, and the Mallard Pointe Golf Course on the shore of Sardis Lake. Cossar has an 18-hole miniature golf course, an 18-hole disc golf course, and nature trails with lake views. Day trips from Como reach the Ole Miss campus in Oxford, Graceland and downtown Memphis, and hiking and hunting in Holly Springs National Forest.

North Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters, hot humid summers, and rain spread across all seasons. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with daytime highs generally in the 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit and lower humidity than midsummer. Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Lake activity peaks from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so campsites at John W Kyle State Park and George P Cossar State Park fill quickly on weekends and holiday periods. Book several weeks out for prime waterfront sites. Spring is also severe-weather season in Mississippi, and travelers should monitor National Weather Service alerts for tornado watches and warnings. Winter is quiet. Daytime temperatures usually rise above freezing, and hard freezes are short. Some private amenities such as pools close for the season, but the state park campgrounds at Kyle and Cossar remain open year-round. Fall football weekends at Ole Miss create demand spikes at parks within an hour of Oxford.

State park campgrounds in this part of Mississippi generally offer paved or gravel pads with water, electric (20, 30, and 50 amp), and sewer hookups, plus a picnic table and grill at each site. Bathhouses have flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry. At John W Kyle State Park, the campground sits on a wooded peninsula on Lower Sardis Lake, and site markings can be faint, so arriving in daylight helps. George P Cossar State Park has two camping areas: Yocona Ridge with waterfront sites on Enid Lake, and Jones Creek, a wooded loop set back from the shore. All sites offer full hookups. Interior roads can be narrow, so larger rigs should take the turns slowly. Cell service is generally reliable near the interstate and can be spotty deep inside the parks. Expect biting insects in warm months, and store food securely, since raccoons and other wildlife are active at night.
