Campgrounds and RV parks near Gautier, MS

Water activities dominate the trip list. The Pascagoula River, the largest unimpeded river system in the lower forty-eight, supports kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, and Sugar Sands Campground & Canoeing Outpost is set up specifically for paddling trips. Boat launches at nearby parks give quick access to bayous and back bays. Gulf Islands National Seashore provides access to marshes, bayous, woods, and beaches (with the beaches a short drive away), an on-site visitor center, ranger-led programs, boating and fishing, and wildlife viewing. Passenger ferries and charters from Gulfport and Biloxi run to the barrier islands in season. On land, families can use hiking and biking trails at area parks, and Ocean Springs offers restaurants and small shops a short drive from most campgrounds.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is a year-round camping destination, but conditions vary sharply by season. Mississippi's climate features relatively mild winters, hot summers, and year-round precipitation, and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico help moderate temperatures along the coast. Winter and early spring bring the most comfortable temperatures and the lightest bug pressure, which is why coastal campgrounds fill quickly from January through March with snowbirds. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Mosquitoes are heavy in warm, humid weather, and bug spray is widely recommended. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk in August and September, so travelers should track forecasts and confirm park status before arrival. Fall cools off after October and pairs lower humidity with fewer crowds, making late October and November strong shoulder-season picks. At Davis Bayou, stay limits shift with the season: between January 1 and March 31 the maximum is 14 consecutive days, from April 1 to December 31 up to 28 days total in two 14-day increments, with a 42-night annual cap.

Sites in the area range from full-hookup private parks with amenities to public campgrounds with more limited utilities. Davis Bayou provides electric and water hookups at RV sites but no sewer connections, and a dump station is available on the property. Its 52 campsites have back-in parking spaces ranging from 30 to 60 feet deep, and generators are not permitted at any time. Expect coastal-forest conditions: shaded, level sites, sandy soils, and heavy tree cover that can limit satellite reception and big-rig maneuvering. A nearby railroad produces train horn noise overnight, and earplugs are a practical addition to the packing list. Cell coverage is generally usable but not fast. Pack bug spray, a water-pressure regulator, and a surge protector, and plan on humid conditions for most of the year.
