Campgrounds near Hurley, Mississippi
Hurley sits in Jackson County in southeast Mississippi, roughly twenty miles inland from the Gulf Coast and just west of the Alabama state line. The area serves as a quiet base for RV travelers heading to Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, Biloxi, and Mobile Bay, with Interstate 10 and US-98 providing east-west access.
Campground options in and around Hurley skew toward small, privately owned RV parks rather than large resort chains. Sugar Sands Campground & Canoeing Outpost sits along the Escatawpa River and pairs sites with paddling access. Orange Grove RV Park, Yall Come Back RV Park, All About Relaxing RV Park, and Sioux Bayou Landing RV Park round out the closest options, most offering full hookups, pull-through sites, and pet-friendly policies suited to longer stays.
Public land camping is limited immediately around Hurley, so most travelers combine a private park stay with day trips to nearby state parks, national seashore units, and coastal beaches within a one-hour drive.
Things to do near Hurley
The Pascagoula River system, one of the largest free-flowing rivers in the lower forty-eight, dominates the local outdoor scene. Paddling, kayaking, and fishing are the main draws, and Sugar Sands Campground & Canoeing Outpost offers direct access to the Escatawpa River for float trips. The Pascagoula River Audubon Center in Moss Point runs guided programs on the delta ecosystem.
Day trips reach the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge in Gautier, Shepard State Park with its hiking trails and disc golf, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore Davis Bayou Area in Ocean Springs. Beaches at Biloxi, Ocean Springs, and Dauphin Island in Alabama are all within roughly an hour by car, along with Mobile's historic downtown and the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

The Gulf Coast climate around Hurley produces long, humid summers and short, mild winters. Peak RV demand runs from March through May, when temperatures are warm but not oppressive and coastal parks fill quickly with spring travelers and snowbirds heading north. Fall, from mid-October through November, is another popular window once summer humidity and afternoon thunderstorms ease.
Summer brings daily highs in the low nineties, high dew points, and near-daily thunderstorms. It also overlaps with Atlantic hurricane season, which officially runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity typically August through October. Travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm evacuation policies with their campground.
Winter is the quietest season locally. Freezes are uncommon but possible, hookups generally remain open, and long-term monthly rates are easier to secure. Some seasonal amenities like pools may close from late fall through early spring.
Booking and reservations
Private RV parks around Hurley, including Orange Grove RV Park, Yall Come Back RV Park, All About Relaxing RV Park, and Sioux Bayou Landing RV Park, typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, with many also listed on third-party marketplaces. Deposits and cancellation windows vary by park, so confirm terms before booking.
For nearby public options, Mississippi State Parks such as Shepard State Park use the state's central reservation system, and Gulf Islands National Seashore campsites at Davis Bayou are booked through Recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window. Spring and fall weekends, along with major holidays, can sell out weeks in advance, so book early and ask about monthly rates if planning an extended stay.
What to expect
Sites around Hurley are typically level with gravel or grass pads, and most parks offer 30 and 50 amp service with water and sewer at the site. Wi-Fi and cell reception are generally reliable given proximity to Mobile and Pascagoula, though speeds vary by park and time of day. Shaded sites under pine and live oak canopy are common but not guaranteed.
Expect insects, especially mosquitoes and no-see-ums, from late spring through early fall, and pack accordingly. Alligators inhabit local rivers and bayous, so keep pets leashed near water. Summer afternoon storms can be intense but brief, and low-lying sites near rivers may be sensitive to heavy rain. Grocery stores, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to find in Moss Point, Pascagoula, and Mobile.
