Campgrounds and RV parks near Itta Bena, MS

The Delta itself is the primary attraction. Travelers based near Itta Bena can visit the B.B. King Museum in Indianola, the Mississippi Blues Trail markers scattered through Greenwood and Leflore County, and the Tallahatchie and Yazoo river corridors for paddling and birding. Cotton fields, catfish farms, and historic downtown squares fill out the driving tours. For water and forest recreation, head east. Grenada Lake near Hugh White State Park is recognized across the South as a crappie hot spot and is also stocked with bass, bream, and catfish. Holmes County State Park is built around two lakes covering 88 acres, with fishing, a boat launch, hiking trails through hardwood forest, cabin rentals, and a playground for families.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Mississippi. Days are warm without being oppressive, humidity drops off, and crappie fishing on Grenada Lake peaks in March and April. Fall brings cooler nights, lower rainfall, and open sites at Holmes County State Park and Hugh White State Park. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common across the Delta and heat indices frequently pushing past 100. Early morning and late evening are the workable outdoor windows during June through August. Mosquitoes are heavy near standing water, so screens and repellent matter. Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional freezes and cold rain events. Sites at the two nearby state parks remain open year-round, though amenities like laundry and showers can see reduced use in the coldest weeks. Late winter and early spring also bring the risk of severe weather across the Delta, including tornado outbreaks, so RVers should monitor forecasts closely.

Expect flat terrain, long agricultural sightlines, and quiet two-lane highways once off I-55 or U.S. 82. Cell coverage is generally solid in and around Greenwood and Itta Bena but can thin along backroads and inside wooded state parks east of the Delta. At Holmes County State Park, the 28 RV sites offer picnic tables and grills, water and electrical hookups, and a central sewage dumping station, with a bathhouse featuring hot showers and coin-operated laundry in the developed camping area. Hugh White State Park - Outlet Channel provides more than 120 developed campsites near the Grenada Lake Dam, with water and electric at each site and a central dump station. Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Greenwood or Grenada. Plan longer resupply runs if basing at smaller private parks.
