Campgrounds and RV parks near Laurel, MS

Downtown Laurel is the main draw. The compact historic district is walkable, filled with early 1900s architecture, and features shops, restaurants, and homes seen on HGTV's Home Town. The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, the oldest art museum in Mississippi, sits one block from downtown and offers free admission, with collections spanning American, European, Native American, and Japanese works. Outdoor options are close by. The Okatoma Creek is a popular canoeing and kayaking run, and area reservoirs offer bass, bream, catfish, and crappie fishing. The 450-acre lake at Maynor Creek adds boating and swimming to the mix, and the Laurel-Jones County Visitor Center is a useful first stop for maps and self-guided walking-tour brochures.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel in the Laurel area. March through May brings warm days, blooming dogwoods and magnolias, and moderate humidity, though spring is also a wet stretch with heavy thunderstorms possible and March often the rainiest month of the year. October and November are typically drier, cooler at night, and pair well with downtown walking and creek paddling. Summer runs long, hot, and humid, with daily highs pushing into the low 90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Sites at private parks near downtown fill quickly on weekends tied to Home Town filming and downtown events. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest risk in August and September, and storms tracking inland from the Gulf can bring heavy rain and wind to the Pine Belt. Winters are short and mild but damp. Freezing nights are possible in December and January, but snow is essentially unheard of, and most private parks in the area operate year round, making Laurel a common stop for snowbirds moving between the Gulf Coast and points north.

Most parks in the area cater to big rigs, with 30/50-amp full hookups, level concrete or gravel pads, pull-through sites, and Wi-Fi. Sleepy Hollow RV Park offers 64 full-hookup sites accommodating rigs up to 70 feet, a swimming pool, fishing pond, playground, fenced dog park, laundry, and on-site security. The Hattiesburg/Okatoma KOA Holiday sits on 60 acres with three fishing lakes, a swimming pool, cabins, and over a mile of walking trails. Maynor Creek Water Park offers both inland and waterfront sites on a 450-acre lake, with cabins, boat rentals, swimming, and picnic pavilions. Expect shaded, wooded sites at most locations, mosquitoes in the warmer months, and some interstate noise at parks close to I-59. Pets on leash are generally welcome at private parks, though PHWD parks do not allow pets in cabins.
