Campgrounds near Metcalfe
Metcalfe sits in Washington County in the Mississippi Delta, a short drive from Greenville and the Mississippi River levee. The area is flat, agricultural, and dotted with oxbow lakes, cypress sloughs, and wildlife management areas that shape most of the camping options within an hour or two of town.
The closest developed public campground is Leroy Percy State Park, located about five miles west of Hollandale off Mississippi Highway 12. Across the river in Arkansas, Lake Chicot State Park sits on North America's largest oxbow lake and offers 122 campsites set in a scenic pecan grove, with sites ranging from full-hookup Class AAA to more basic options. Nearby private options include Pecan Grove RV Park in Lake Village, Arkansas, and Delta Mobile Home and RV Park closer to Metcalfe itself.
For RV travelers heading further afield, Chemin-A-Haut State Park in northeast Louisiana adds another state-park option with hookup sites, cabins, and lake access within reasonable driving distance.
Things to do near Metcalfe
Fishing drives most trips. Alligator Lake at Leroy Percy is stocked with bream, catfish, and bass, and Lake Chicot produces bass, crappie, catfish, and bream, with the upper end fishing especially well for crappie and bream in spring and fall. Boat launches and boat rentals are available at Lake Chicot's marina.
Birding is a major draw. Lake Chicot's location in one of the largest migratory flyways in the country makes it exceptional for birdwatching, and species include warblers, buntings, and woodpeckers. Leroy Percy features the Alligator Lake Trail, which winds by the lake and passes through delta hardwood forest, and the park keeps a fenced alligator viewing area.
Other diversions include an 18-hole disc golf course at Leroy Percy, the Delta Woodlands Trail and bike rentals at Lake Chicot, and day trips into Greenville for Delta blues history and Mississippi River overlooks.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Delta. Days are warm, humidity is manageable, and migratory birds move through in large numbers along the Mississippi Flyway. The quieter spring and fall seasons are especially good for catching crappie, bass, and bream on the upper end of Lake Chicot.
Summer is hot, humid, and buggy. In the Greenville area, summers are long, hot, and muggy, while winters are short, cold, and wet. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through August, and mosquitoes at Leroy Percy can be intense near the lake. Pools are the payoff: Lake Chicot's campground includes modern restrooms open year-round and a seasonal swimming pool open on weekends.
Winter is the quiet season. With proximity to the Mississippi Flyway, this is a winter migratory bird hotspot, and both state parks stay open year-round, though services thin out and some facility loops may close.
How to book campgrounds near Metcalfe
Mississippi and Arkansas state parks use separate reservation systems, so plan by destination. For Mississippi parks, reservations can be made up to 13 months in advance through the MDWFP reservation portal at reserve.mdwfp.com, and reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the desired arrival date.
At Leroy Percy, all 16 RV sites are available for advance reservation, with any remainder filled first-come, first-served. Notify the park in advance if arriving after 5 PM so staff can arrange access.
For Lake Chicot State Park, book through the Arkansas State Parks site at arkansasstateparks.com or ReserveAmerica. Check-in and check-out time is 3 PM, and campsites are limited to 14 rental nights within any thirty-day period. Private parks such as Pecan Grove RV Park and Delta Mobile Home and RV Park are booked directly by phone.
What to expect at Metcalfe campgrounds
Campgrounds in this area lean utilitarian rather than resort-style. Leroy Percy has 16 RV sites, each equipped with water, sewer, and electrical hookups, with a bathhouse featuring hot showers and laundry facilities near the developed camping area. Sites are paved back-ins with an RV length limit of 40 feet, and a dump station is available. Verify site length before booking a larger rig.
At Lake Chicot, expect a wider range of sites and more amenities. The on-site marina rents fishing boats, kayaks, and personal watercraft, plus a launch ramp, and a park store carries supplies, bait, and fuel.
Pets are welcome at both state parks on leash. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the highways but can be spotty deeper in the parks, and the ground stays flat and easy to level.
