Campgrounds near New Albany, Mississippi
New Albany sits in Union County in northeast Mississippi, roughly 25 miles north of Tupelo and about an hour southeast of Memphis. It functions as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Natchez Trace Parkway, whose headquarters and visitor center sit just south in Tupelo, and for anglers heading to the lakes at nearby state parks.
RV options in the area combine Mississippi state park campgrounds with smaller private parks. Deer Run and Eagle Ridge - Trace State Park offers full-hookup lakeside sites west of Tupelo near Belden, while Tombigbee State Park east of Tupelo adds a smaller loop of paved sites on Lake Lee. Closer to town, Campgrounds at Barnes Crossing and Natchez Trace RV Park handle overnight and short-stay travelers, and Ashland RV Connections rounds out the choices to the northwest.
Most sites are drive-up friendly for typical Class C and travel-trailer rigs, and the terrain is rolling hardwood forest rather than mountain grade.
Things to do near New Albany
The Natchez Trace Parkway is the anchor attraction. The parkway headquarters and visitor center are near Tupelo, and the road itself carries no commercial trucks, which makes it a calm scenic drive for RV day trips. Tupelo also holds the Elvis Presley Birthplace and museum, an easy family stop from any of the nearby campgrounds.
On the water, Trace Lake at Trace State Park covers 565 acres and allows fishing and boating, with a designated water-skiing side. Lake Lee at Tombigbee State Park is a smaller 90-acre lake stocked with bass, bream, and catfish, with trolling-speed limits and no swimming or jet skis, keeping it calm for kayaks and canoes.
On land, both state parks maintain disc golf courses, playgrounds, and hiking or mountain-bike trails through hardwood forest.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV windows around New Albany. Daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit, humidity is lower than in summer, and the hardwood canopy at Trace and Tombigbee provides shaded sites. Wildflower and dogwood bloom peaks in April, and fall color usually arrives late October into early November.
Summer is hot and humid. Highs regularly top 90 degrees Fahrenheit in July and August, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Peak camping demand at Trace State Park runs May through August, so weekends fill early. Full-hookup sites with 50-amp service are the practical choice in this window because air-conditioning runs most of the day.
Winter camping is possible year-round at both state parks, which stay open, but bathhouse traffic and lake activity slow down. December is the wettest month on average, so expect muddy sites after storms. Severe-weather season peaks in spring, with tornado watches most common March through May.
How to book campgrounds near New Albany
Mississippi state park campgrounds, including Trace State Park and Tombigbee State Park, are reserved through the Mississippi State Parks reservation system operated by MDWFP. Campsite reservations can be made up to 24 months in advance of the arrival date, and the minimum age to hold a reservation is 21.
Holiday and special weekends carry a three-night minimum stay, and the maximum length of stay is 14 days. Book Deer Run and Eagle Ridge - Trace State Park well ahead for May through August weekends, when the limited number of lakefront sites sells out quickly.
Private parks including Natchez Trace RV Park, Campgrounds at Barnes Crossing, and Ashland RV Connections are booked directly by phone or through their own websites rather than through a state portal.
What to expect on site
Trace State Park offers full-hookup RV sites with electric, water, and sewer across the Deer Run and Eagle Ridge loops, with paved pads, three bathhouses with hot showers, a central dump station, and a coin-operated laundry located in the Eagle Ridge campground. Reviewers consistently note that the access road and interior roads are rough with potholes, so drive slowly with a towable.
Tombigbee State Park is smaller, with a loop of 20 paved sites. Eighteen have full hookups and two are water and electric only, and a dump station sits on the main park road. Sites are shaded but not heavily screened from neighbors, and cell reception can be weak.
Private options in the area tend to be pull-through friendly for big rigs, with level gravel or paved pads, laundry, and simple amenities aimed at overnight travelers rather than long stays.

Watch for summer thunderstorms (June to August), which can drop heavy rain fast, and be aware that tornado season peaks in April and May, when MDOT highway alerts are worth checking.
