Campgrounds near Pelahatchie, Mississippi
Pelahatchie sits in Rankin County, Mississippi, just off Interstate 20 about 30 miles east of Jackson and within easy reach of the eastern shore of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The 33,000-acre reservoir on the Pearl River is managed by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, and its shoreline anchors most of the RV camping in the area.
Closest to town, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Pelahatchie (also marketed as Yogi on the Lake) is a family-focused private resort on Pelahatchie Bay. Green Tree RV and Recreational Park offers a smaller full-hookup option nearby, while Goshen Springs Campground sits on the north side of the reservoir with direct water and boat-ramp access.
For a state-park option, RO Hannah - Roosevelt State Park is roughly a half-hour east near Morton. The park sits between Meridian and Jackson, and its scenic overlook provides a panoramic view of the Bienville National Forest, making it a practical base for RV travelers who want a wooded, lake-adjacent setting on Shadow Lake.
Things to do near Pelahatchie
Water recreation drives most trips here. Ross Barnett is known for largemouth bass fishing and regularly hosts regional tournaments, and crappie and catfish are also abundant. The reservoir draws boaters, jet skiers, pontoon cruisers, kayakers, and paddleboarders, while Pelahatchie Bay on the east side offers calmer water that suits families with younger kids.
On land, Roosevelt State Park adds variety. Facilities include a visitor center, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, a disc golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, a seasonal swimming pool with a water slide, roughly 4.8 miles of nature and mountain biking trails, kayak rentals on Shadow Lake, and a camp store. Day trips into Jackson add museums, the zoo, and dining, all within a 30 to 40-minute drive.

Central Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate with a long warm season. Jackson experiences hot summers and cool winters, rainfall is abundant throughout the year with fall typically the driest season, and heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common during the warmer months. Spring brings some of the wettest stretches and the highest severe-weather risk, so RV travelers should monitor forecasts and use tie-downs.
Summer is peak season on the reservoir and at private resorts, and holiday weekends fill quickly. Reservations for cabins and campsites should be made well ahead if visiting between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Fall offers the most comfortable camping weather, with cooler nights and lower humidity.
Seasonal availability also shifts at public campgrounds. Roosevelt State Park operates two campgrounds, R.O. Hannah and CCC, both of which see heavier demand from spring through fall, with reservations handled online through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.
How to book
Booking channels differ by property. For Roosevelt State Park, reservations can be made by calling the park or through the online reservation system operated by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. R.O. Hannah has 42 sites and the CCC campground adds 67 more, for 110 sites in total, and prime lakefront spots fill quickly during festivals and holidays, so advance booking is recommended.
Goshen Springs is managed by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District and now offers online reservations through its campground portal; many sites are held by long-term monthly campers, so summer availability is tight and it is worth calling ahead. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Pelahatchie and Green Tree RV and Recreational Park accept direct bookings through their own websites or phone lines; book several weeks ahead for summer and holiday weekends.
What to expect
Sites in the area are generally RV-friendly with paved or concrete pads and full or partial hookups. Roosevelt State Park has 110 newly renovated RV campsites, each with 50-, 30-, and 20-amp electricity, water, and sewer, plus a picnic table and grill, along with renovated bathhouses, a central dump station, and a camp store. Goshen Springs offers spacious, level concrete pads with full hookups, boat launches and boat slips, a bathhouse with laundry, a swimming pool, grills, picnic areas, and a playground.
Expect wooded shade at Roosevelt, open lake exposure at reservoir sites, and a family-resort atmosphere with pools and organized activities at the Jellystone property. Summer humidity is high, biting insects are active, and afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan for awnings, bug protection, and secure outdoor gear.
