Campgrounds and RV parks near Polkville, MS

Roosevelt State Park is the main outdoor hub. Shadow Lake supports fishing, kayak rentals, and a boat launch, and the park has 4.8 miles of marked nature trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking. Day-use amenities include a seasonal swimming pool with a refinished water slide, disc golf, tennis and pickleball courts, and a playground. Families traveling with kids often build the trip around the water features at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Pelahatchie, which include a multi-level splash pad, pools, a sandy beach, mini-golf, a jumping pillow, and themed weekend activities with Yogi Bear characters. Jackson, about a 45-minute drive west, adds museums and restaurants, with the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science as a solid rainy-day option.

Central Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters, hot summers, and rain spread across all seasons. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel: daytime temperatures are warm rather than hot, humidity is lower, and the hardwoods around Shadow Lake take on color in late October and November. Summer is peak family-camping season because pools, splash pads, and lake activities are all open, but afternoon thunderstorms are common and heat indices routinely climb into the high nineties. Reservations at Roosevelt State Park and the Jellystone properties tighten quickly around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends. Spring brings the state's peak severe-weather season, with tornado risk highest from March through May. Hurricane remnants can also push heavy rain inland from the Gulf between June and November, so travelers should watch the forecast. Winter camping is straightforward at the private parks, though seasonal pool and water attractions close and occasional freeze warnings can affect hookups.

Roosevelt State Park's campsites are paved back-in pads with full water, sewer, and 20, 30, and 50-amp electric service, picnic tables, and grills. Four renovated bathhouses with hot showers and coin laundry are within walking distance of the sites, and a centralized dump station serves both loops. Green Tree RV and Recreational Park is a small park just off Highway 80 in Morton with full hookups, geared toward overnight and short stays rather than resort amenities. Wendy Oaks RV Resort is a similarly small property in Florence with full hookups and a small lake. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Pelahatchie sits on a lake and accommodates RVs up to about 50 feet, with full hookups, WiFi, bathhouses, cabin rentals, and daily planned activities alongside the water zone, pools, and beach.
