Campgrounds and RV parks near Rosedale, MS

Fishing dominates the area. Lake Chicot is known for crappie and also produces largemouth bass, bream, and catfish year-round. Leroy Percy State Park's Alligator Lake is stocked with channel catfish, largemouth bass, redear sunfish, and bluegill, with a T-shaped fishing dock for shore anglers and a boat launch near the campground. Birding is a major draw. The region sits within the Mississippi Flyway, making winter and shoulder seasons especially productive for waterfowl and wading birds. Lake Chicot State Park offers lake and levee tours from its Visitor Center. On land, Leroy Percy features the Alligator Lake Trail through delta hardwood forest, a disc golf course, and observation towers where alligators are commonly spotted. The Great River Road scenic byway itself is a slow-driving route with river overlooks.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Delta. March through May brings mild temperatures and peak crappie fishing on Lake Chicot, though April is typically wet in the Cleveland-Rosedale area, with heavy thunderstorms possible. Autumn, from September through November, is usually the driest and most pleasant stretch, favourable for hiking, birding, and disc golf. Summer is long, hot, and humid, with average July highs around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and dew points frequently above 70. Mosquitoes are a common complaint in wooded state park sites during warmer months, and afternoon thunderstorms are frequent. Winters are short and generally mild, with January lows near freezing but rarely persistent cold. Lake Chicot State Park stays open year-round, though some campground loops and bathhouses may close in the off-season. Waterfowl and small-game hunting seasons at the Leroy Percy Wildlife Management Area run through the cooler months, so overnight guests should expect early-morning activity during those weeks.

Sites in this region are generally level, with paved or concrete pads common at the state parks. Leroy Percy offers 16 back-in sites with electric, water, and sewer, sized for rigs up to about 40 feet, with concrete pads and open spacing between sites. Lake Chicot's Class AAA loops hold the premium 50-amp full-hookup sites, and pecan-grove pads offer shade and lake access. Cell coverage is inconsistent. Some campers report spotty signal inside Leroy Percy, so download maps and reservations in advance. Bathhouses at both state parks include hot showers and laundry, though a few reviewers note aging facilities. Wildlife is part of the experience. Alligators are visible in park lakes from observation towers, and deer, raccoons, pelicans, and migrating waterfowl are common sightings. Pets are welcome on leash at most parks, but check individual park rules before arrival.
