Camping near Saucier, Mississippi
Saucier sits in Harrison County within the De Soto Ranger District of De Soto National Forest, an area of gently rolling southern pine ridges, hardwood bottoms, and clear tea-colored streams. The town lies roughly 20 miles north of Gulfport, putting RV travelers within easy reach of both the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches and the pine forests of the interior.
Camping options range from developed private parks to primitive national forest sites. Woodland Farm RV Campground and Bayberry RV Park cater to travelers wanting hookups and quiet sites, while Gulfport KOA sits closer to Highway 49 with resort-style amenities. Campgrounds Of The South offers another full-service option for RVs of most sizes.
For a rustic alternative, Airey lake recreation area sits inside De Soto National Forest and offers access to hiking and a small fishing lake. De Soto National Forest covers roughly 518,000 acres of pine forests and wetlands across southern Mississippi, providing a mix of primitive and developed recreation sites.
Things to do around Saucier
Hiking is the headline activity. Two national recreation trails, the Black Creek and the Tuxachanie, run through the surrounding pinewoods and together cover more than 60 miles. The Tuxachanie trailhead is minutes from Saucier and passes near Airey lake recreation area, making a day hike straightforward from an RV base.
Paddlers head to Black Creek, Mississippi's only national wild and scenic river, known for wide white sandbars and a relaxed float pace. Off-road riders can use the Bethel ATV Trail system inside the national forest. Anglers fish the small forest lakes and coastal bays.
Many families combine forest days with a run down US-49 to Gulfport for the Mississippi Aquarium, Gulf Islands beaches, and Ship Island ferries.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. Daytime highs sit in the 70s and low 80s, humidity is more manageable, and biting insects are less aggressive than in midsummer. Wildflowers and pitcher-plant bogs along the Tuxachanie Trail peak in spring.
Summer brings heat, high humidity, and near-daily thunderstorms. Heavy seasonal downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common during the warmer months, with summer being the wettest season on the coastal plain. Bookings hold up through summer because of school vacations, but midday hiking is uncomfortable and mosquitoes are heavy in low areas.
Late summer through fall carries tropical risk. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with peak activity between mid-August and mid-October, so RV travelers should watch National Hurricane Center advisories. Winter is mild and quiet, with some private parks running reduced services and a few forest sites closed for maintenance.
How to book campgrounds near Saucier
Private parks in the Saucier and Gulfport area, including Gulfport KOA, Woodland Farm RV Campground, Bayberry RV Park, and Campgrounds Of The South, take direct online or phone reservations. Sites at Gulfport KOA fill fastest around holiday weekends and Mardi Gras, so booking several weeks out is prudent.
National forest sites use different systems. Many primitive sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Check current status before arriving: Airey lake recreation area is currently open for day use only, with no camping allowed, so confirm any reopening with the De Soto Ranger District office.
Developed national forest campgrounds in the region generally take reservations through recreation.gov.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in Saucier and the surrounding forest are generally shaded by longleaf and slash pine, with sandy soil that drains well after storms. Private RV parks along US-49 offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and laundry. Gulfport KOA has 65 full hookup sites with 50/30 amp service, free Wi-Fi, a lazy river, a large hot tub, an adult pool, pickleball, and basketball.
Forest sites are basic. Expect vault or pit toilets, potable water spigots, picnic tables, and fire rings. All national forest campgrounds prohibit alcohol. Cell service is spotty once off US-49.
Stock up on groceries, propane, and bug spray in Gulfport or Wiggins before heading into the forest. Length-of-stay caps apply in Forest Service areas.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Saucier, MS?
Absolutely. Many Saucier RVezy listings are pet-friendly: toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and message the host through the listing to confirm pet fees and any notes. On the road, your dog can join you on De Soto National Forest's Big Biloxi Recreation Area trails and the leashed-dog stretches of Gulfport's beachfront promenade. Pack a cooling mat and extra water bowls, because Saucier summers regularly hit the low 90s with high humidity. A pet-friendly RV rental in Saucier turns a weekend into a tail-wagging coastal adventure.
fs.usda.gov/r08/de-sotoCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Saucier?
Yes, RV delivery in Saucier is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the rig directly to your campground, including spots in De Soto National Forest like Big Biloxi Recreation Area, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter listings by Delivery, then message the host with your destination address to confirm the fee, which is usually based on round-trip distance. Show up, unpack the cooler, and start your Saucier RV trip stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saucier,MississippiHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Saucier?
Saucier sits at a sweet spot on Highway 49 between Gulfport and Hattiesburg, so an RV road trip from Saucier opens up the entire Gulf South. New Orleans is about 90 miles west (under 2 hours), Mobile, Alabama is roughly 80 miles east, Pensacola Beach is around 130 miles, and Hattiesburg's Paul B. Johnson State Park is just 50 miles north. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance with extra miles available for a small per-mile fee, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer journeys. Discuss your planned route with the host through RVezy messaging before booking so you know exactly what's included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saucier,MississippiWhere are the best campgrounds near Saucier, MS?
You're spoiled for choice near Saucier. Big Biloxi Recreation Area inside De Soto National Forest gives you wooded campsites with water and electric along the Big Biloxi River. Flint Creek Water Park in Wiggins (about 25 miles north) has lakefront sites and a swimming beach, and Davis Bayou Campground at Gulf Islands National Seashore is roughly 30 minutes east in Ocean Springs. Paul B. Johnson State Park near Hattiesburg is another popular option about 50 miles north with full-hookup sites and a lake. RV camping in Saucier really does have a flavor for every traveler, from full-service resorts to forest hideaways.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234127When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Saucier?
The sweet spot for an RV trip in Saucier is mid-October through late April, when Mississippi's piney-woods humidity backs off and daytime highs sit around 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring (March to early May) brings dogwood and azalea blooms across De Soto National Forest, while fall lines up with Cruisin' the Coast, the classic-car festival that takes over the Gulf Coast every October. Summers (June through September) average highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with afternoon thunderstorms and peak Atlantic hurricane risk, so AC and flexible plans matter. Winter is mild and quiet, which means cheaper RV rental in Saucier and your pick of campsites.
weather.gov/lix/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one out of Saucier?
You've got this, and Saucier is one of the friendlier places in the South to learn. Roads around town are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked, with Highway 49 and Highway 67 offering long straight stretches to get comfortable before heading anywhere busier. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, propane, slide-outs, tanks, and hookups, so you're never guessing. If you'd rather skip the wheel altogether, book delivery. First-time renters in Saucier often start with a smaller Class C or travel trailer and a two-night stay at Big Biloxi Recreation Area to ease in. By night two, you'll feel like a pro.
mdot.ms.gov/What happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Saucier RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Saucier includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something goes wrong on Highway 49, deep in De Soto National Forest, or out on a beach run to Gulfport, you'll have a single number to call and a real person who can dispatch help. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for questions about quirks unique to their rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after the trip. Save the roadside number to your phone at pickup and you're set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Saucier RV rental into Louisiana, Alabama, or across the border?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals out of Saucier, and the location is perfect for it: New Orleans is 90 miles west into Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama is about 80 miles east, both comfortable day-one drives. Travel into Canada may be possible with the right host approval and insurance setup, so confirm in writing through RVezy messaging before booking. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Popular multi-state loops from Saucier include the Gulf Coast crawl (Saucier to Pensacola via Mobile) and the Big Easy run (Saucier to NOLA via Bay St. Louis).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?
Budget realistically and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Campervans get roughly 16 to 20 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, and big Class A coaches sit around 6 to 9 mpg, while travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Mississippi consistently has some of the lowest fuel prices in the country, so a Saucier-to-New Orleans round trip in a Class C usually costs around $70 to $110 in fuel. Fill up before leaving the Highway 49 corridor, because rural pockets of De Soto National Forest can stretch 20 plus miles between stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Saucier?
For most weekends, two to four weeks ahead is plenty, but a few dates need earlier planning. Big Biloxi Recreation Area inside De Soto National Forest books through Recreation.gov, and reservations can be made up to six months out, which matters for spring break and October Cruisin' the Coast week, when sites vanish fast. Mississippi State Parks like Paul B. Johnson use the state's reservation system and also fill quickly on holiday weekends. Private parks often have midweek availability even last-minute. Book your RV rental in Saucier first, then your campsite, so you can match site dimensions to the rig.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234127What are driving conditions like in and around Saucier?
Easy and stress-free for the most part. Saucier is a small piney-woods community along Highway 49, with two flat lanes in each direction and slow speed limits through town, which is great for first-time RV drivers. The biggest things to watch for are sudden summer thunderstorms (pull off and wait them out), occasional fog in low-lying De Soto National Forest areas around dawn, and tropical weather from June through November. If you're heading south to Gulfport or east toward Biloxi, traffic builds during casino shift changes and Cruisin' the Coast week. Avoid downtown New Orleans in a big rig: streets are narrow. Park at a New Orleans-area RV park and rideshare in.
mdottraffic.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Saucier offer, and where can I dump tanks or fill water?
You'll find solid amenities at every level. Private RV parks along Highway 49 typically offer 30 and 50 amp full hookups, dump stations, Wi-Fi, laundry, and hot showers. Big Biloxi Recreation Area in De Soto National Forest provides water and electric at each site plus a central dump station and bathhouses, though there is no sewer at the pad. Public dump stations are also available at parks in the Gulfport and Biloxi area. For potable water fills outside campgrounds, most Highway 49 truck stops north of I-10 accommodate RVs. Filling at arrival and dumping on departure is the easy rhythm here.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234127What features and amenities come with a typical motorhome rental in Saucier?
You'll be impressed by how loaded these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Saucier on RVezy includes a queen or king bed, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, an enclosed bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (a Mississippi summer must-have), a furnace for chilly winter nights, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most listings also include a TV, and many add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, bike racks, and onboard generators for boondocking. Campervans on the platform are more compact but still cover sleeping, cooking, and climate basics. Check each listing's amenities list and message the host through RVezy if you need something specific like a bunk for the kids.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saucier,MississippiWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for an RV rental in Saucier?
Hosts in Saucier love making your trip easier with extras. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor mats, generators, bike racks, paddleboards (handy for Flint Creek Water Park), portable grills, and pet packages. Each listing spells out add-on prices clearly during booking. For pickup and drop-off, most hosts meet you at their home or storage lot in Saucier, but RV delivery to a campground or even your driveway in Gulfport is widely offered. Mileage policies vary: many hosts include 100 to 150 miles per day with extra miles around 35 to 50 cents each, and some offer unlimited mileage on weekly bookings. Compare carefully before you confirm.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saucier,MississippiHow do payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Saucier?
It's refreshingly simple. When you book your RV rental in Saucier on RVezy, payment is handled securely through the platform with a credit or debit card, so there's no cash changing hands at pickup. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is held (not charged) on your card before the trip, then released after drop-off, assuming the rig comes back in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by listing but are shown clearly before you confirm. To avoid surprises, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement, and message any concerns through RVezy so everything is documented.
