Campgrounds and RV parks near Cuba, MO

The Meramec River is the main draw. Canoe, kayak, and raft trips run out of the private resorts along the highways south of town, and the river is rated Class I with occasional riffles, suitable for family paddlers. Fishing focuses on smallmouth bass, catfish, and sunfish, with lake and river access at several of the private campgrounds. Onondaga Cave State Park runs guided Onondaga Cave tours daily from April 1 through October 31, plus weekend Cathedral Cave tours from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Meramec State Park adds Fisher Cave tours from mid-May through mid-September, with daily tours in June, July, and August, and more than thirteen miles of hiking trails. In town, the Route 66 murals, the historic Wagon Wheel Motel, and local antique shops give travelers a break from the water on a rainy afternoon.

The main camping season in this part of Missouri runs roughly April through October, with peak demand from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Summers are hot and humid, with July highs averaging near 89°F and heat-index values that can push higher. Float trips, swimming pools at several private resorts, and shaded riverside sites are the main draws during this stretch, and weekends near Cuba fill early. Spring is the wettest season. May is typically the highest-rainfall month across the Ozark Highlands, and river levels can rise quickly after heavy storms, occasionally closing float outfitters and low-lying campsites for a few days. Fall brings cooler nights, lower crowds, and strong color along the bluffs from mid-October into early November. Winters are cold but generally mild by Midwest standards, with occasional snow and freezing overnight temperatures. Several private campgrounds close or reduce services in the off-season, and at Meramec State Park showers close while water at individual sites is turned off from November through March.

The private campgrounds along the Meramec run the gamut from primitive tent areas to full-hookup pull-throughs with 50-amp service. Expect wooded, hilly terrain, gravel pads, and river or lake frontage at most properties. Amenities vary by campground and often include pools, stocked ponds, laundry, camp stores, and multiple bathhouses. Cell service is uneven once campers drop down into the river valleys, and Wi-Fi is typically limited to lodge or office areas. At the state parks, sites are laid out on winding loops with a mix of basic, electric, electric/water, and sewer/electric/water hookups. Dump stations, camp stores, and frost-free water are available, though water to individual sites at Meramec State Park is turned off in the off-season. GPS routing can be unreliable in this terrain: follow posted highway signs rather than shortcut roads, particularly with a large rig or trailer.
