At Roaring River, Bennett Spring, and Montauk state parks, the on-season begins February 25. The on-season for Table Rock State Park runs from March through November. Knowing those windows matters: outside the on-season, water spigots and bathhouses are typically shut down even when sites remain open. Late spring and fall are the comfortable shoulder seasons. Late spring (April to May) brings warm days and blooming wildflowers, while fall (September to October) brings colorful foliage and cooler temperatures. Summer provides the fullest access to water activities, though humidity runs high. Memorial Day through Labor Day is peak demand at the popular lake and Ozark parks, and weekends book out months ahead. Missouri weather can swing hard. The state's central location means unpredictable weather, especially in spring and early summer, when thunderstorms and even tornadoes can develop quickly. Deer firearms season in mid-November also affects forested parks and adjacent national forest land.

Hookup levels vary widely. Nearly 40 Missouri state parks offer camping for both tent and RV campers. Dry camping, partial hookups, and full hookups are commonly available, with options varying at each location. At Bennett Spring State Park and Lake of the Ozarks State Park, expect a mix of basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water sites. Echo Bluff State Park is newer and generally offers the most modern full-hookup pads in the state park system. Ozark roads require attention with a larger rig. Southern Missouri is defined by the Ozark Mountains, with winding roads, rolling hills, and steep grades. Drivers should balance scenic views with careful maneuvering when towing or operating a larger rig. Before hitting the road, double-check brakes and engine cooling, and use RV-friendly navigation to avoid sharp curves and low bridges. Bring bug spray. Mosquitoes and ticks are active during the warmer months, so bring repellent and check for ticks after hiking. Pets are welcome at most state parks on a leash.
