Camping near Des Peres, Missouri
Des Peres sits in west St. Louis County, roughly twenty minutes from downtown St. Louis and within easy reach of both Missouri and Illinois RV parks. Travelers typically use the area as a base for exploring the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, and the wooded Meramec and Missouri River corridors, then return to full-hookup sites at night.
The closest options include Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates and Covered Bridge RV Park and Storage in the near-metro area, plus Sundermeier RV Park in historic St. Charles and Cahokia RV Parque just across the Mississippi in Illinois. For a state-park experience, Babler State Park sits in the northwest section of Wildwood and covers 2,441 acres, about fifteen miles west of Des Peres.
Most private parks in the region cater to travelers with paved or concrete pads, 30 and 50-amp service, and Wi-Fi, while the state park option trades resort amenities for wooded sites and hiking trails. Together they cover both quick overnight stops off the interstate and longer stays for families touring the region.
Things to do around Des Peres
The main draw is central St. Louis: Forest Park, the Saint Louis Zoo, the City Museum, Busch Stadium, and the Gateway Arch grounds. Cahokia RV Parque sits close to the Arch across the Mississippi in Illinois, useful for families who prefer to leave the rig parked.
Outdoor time is easy to add on. Babler State Park has camping facilities, Civilian Conservation Corps architecture, and hiking, bicycling and equestrian trails, with thirteen miles of hiking trails across an oak-hickory forest. Sundermeier RV Park is in historic St. Charles near the Katy Trail State Park, a paved rail-to-trail route that runs along the Missouri River.
Across the river in Illinois, the Cahokia Mounds World Heritage Site adds a half-day of ancient earthworks and interpretive exhibits within a short drive of most metro-area campgrounds.

The St. Louis area has a true four-season climate. The climate is continental, with cold winters and hot summers, with quite frequent thunderstorms. Summers run hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from late spring into August. Highs in the 90s are routine in July, so shaded sites and 50-amp electric for air conditioning are worth booking early.
Spring is the wettest and most volatile season. St. Louis is located east of the heart of Tornado Alley and is one of the metropolitan areas most affected by this phenomenon, with tornadoes more likely in spring, but sometimes also occurring in autumn. The Mississippi and Missouri Rivers can also run high through this stretch. Fall is generally the most stable window for RV travel, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and reliable foliage color through October.
Winters are cold but rarely extreme. The city normally has 19 days a year when it never warms up to above freezing, and frosty days can happen from November to March but are most common in January. Many private parks stay open year-round while state-park amenities shift to a reduced off-season schedule.

Babler State Park uses the Missouri State Parks reservation system. Reservations can be made online through the reservation website or by calling toll free 877-ICampMO (877-422-6766), and the booking window now runs up to 12 months in advance, expanding from the previous six-month window. Private parks near Des Peres, including Sundermeier RV Park and Cahokia RV Parque, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and any event tied to Cardinals baseball, downtown festivals, or Route 66 travel, book six to eight weeks out. Shoulder-season midweek stays usually have same-week availability.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of urban-adjacent RV parks and one wooded state park. Sundermeier RV Park offers concrete pads, pull-throughs, 30 and 50-amp service, cable, and Wi-Fi in historic St. Charles, close to interstate access and the Katy Trail. Light-sleeping families should factor in some ambient noise from nearby transportation corridors.
Cahokia RV Parque has full hookups, a pool, laundry, and a dog park on the Illinois side, with gravel back-in sites and shaded pull-throughs.
Babler State Park's campground features fully reservable basic, electric and full-hookup sites, with services including water, showers and a dump station. Upgrades brought 35 campsites that now offer sewer, water and 50-amp electrical service. Park gates close at 9 p.m. during the on-season and 6 p.m. during the off-season, so plan arrivals accordingly.

RV rental in Des Peres is one of the most affordable ways to explore the St. Louis metro area. On RVezy, towable trailers in the area average around $125 per night, while motorhomes average about $200 per night, and many hosts offer discounts for weekly or monthly bookings. To find a cheap RV rental in Des Peres, search midweek dates, consider travel trailers instead of large Class A motorhomes, and filter by price range. Pro tip: booking outside peak summer (June through early August) can often save you 15 to 25 percent, especially when Cardinals home games and Six Flags weekends quiet down.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Des%20Peres%2C%20MissouriWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Des Peres, Missouri?

Missouri does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a special endorsement for personal recreational vehicles, even larger Class A motorhomes. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club before flying into St. Louis Lambert (STL) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the whole process is.

Booking an RV in Des Peres is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy. The policy considers how far out your trip start date is and factors like unexpected events, and you'll see the full details at checkout and in your RVezy account before you confirm. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy helps refund or rebook so your trip stays on track. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Des Peres RV rentals, then finalize plans with confidence knowing the policy is consistent across every listing.

Most KOA and Missouri State Park campgrounds, including Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park just 15 minutes west, allow leashed pets on trails and in most campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any breed or size preferences so check-in goes smoothly.
mostateparks.com/page/54905/pet-policyCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Des Peres?
Yes, RV delivery in Des Peres is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many hosts will drive the RV to your driveway, a local campground like St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA in Eureka, or even directly to Six Flags St. Louis, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, and check the host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into St. Louis Lambert (STL) airport or just don't want to drive a 30-foot motorhome through Manchester Road traffic, the RV is waiting when you arrive.

Pro tip: reserve Babler sites the moment Missouri State Parks opens its 6-month window.
mostateparks.com/park/dr-edmund-babler-memorial-state-parkWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Des Peres?
Des Peres has a true four-season climate, and the sweet spots are late April through early June and mid-September through late October, when daytime highs typically sit in the comfortable 65 to 80F range and humidity drops. Summer (June to August) brings highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s with classic Missouri humidity, perfect for Lake of the Ozarks trips if you plan for AC and shade. Winters dip into the 20s and 30s and occasionally see snow, so fewer renters compete for great rigs and prices drop. Pro tip: October weekends often line up with peak Ozarks fall foliage on the Meramec River, one of the best Des Peres RV trip experiences all year.
weather.gov/lsx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it?
Yes, and you're not alone, first time renting an RV is the most common scenario in Des Peres. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, the dump process, and propane, and you can message your host any time during the trip. If city driving makes you nervous, choose a smaller Class B campervan rental in Des Peres or a 20 to 25 foot Class C, both easy to handle on I-270 and Manchester Road. Pro tip: start with a short shake-down night at Babler State Park or the Eureka KOA before heading farther, you'll learn the rig in a low-stress setting.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rving-safetyWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Des Peres trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-44 near Six Flags or a dead battery at Creve Coeur Lake is one phone call away from help. The roadside team can dispatch tire service, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing across the St. Louis metro and beyond. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and roadside number at pickup and save your host's contact, then you can keep enjoying your Missouri Botanical Garden visit while help is on the way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Des Peres RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Des Peres. You're a short drive from Illinois (cross the Mississippi in 20 minutes), and popular multi-state routes include the Great River Road north toward Wisconsin, I-44 west to Oklahoma, and I-55 south to Memphis. Cross-border travel into Canada is generally permitted with host approval, so confirm in a pre-booking message so they can note it on the agreement. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Pro tip: classic loops from Des Peres include Route 66 to Tulsa or the Ozarks-to-Hot-Springs swing through Arkansas.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and your fuel budget for an RV rental in Missouri stays reasonable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, Class A motorhomes 6 to 9 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). Gas in the St. Louis metro typically runs close to or below the national average, with stations along Manchester Road and I-270 often among the cheapest. For a 3-day Lake of the Ozarks loop (about 350 miles round trip) in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $170 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Missouri before crossing into Illinois, prices typically jump across the river.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Des Peres?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the best sites. Missouri State Parks like Babler, Meramec, and Lake of the Ozarks open reservations 6 months in advance through the state's official reservation system, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day) can book within hours. Private parks like the Eureka KOA and Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles fill 4 to 6 weeks ahead during peak summer and Six Flags weekends, while fall and spring usually need only 2 to 3 weeks notice. Pro tip: if you're aiming for July 4 fireworks at the Gateway Arch or a Cardinals weekend series, book your campground first, then secure your RV rental in Des Peres to match.
mostateparks.com/page/55028/make-reservationWhat are driving conditions like around Des Peres and St. Louis?
Driving an RV around Des Peres is very manageable. The town sits near the I-270 and Manchester Road interchange with wide suburban roads and large parking lots that are easy to maneuver. Avoid narrow downtown St. Louis streets near the Arch and Laclede's Landing with longer rigs, and watch posted bridge clearance signs on older routes like Hampton Avenue. Rush hour on I-64 and I-270 (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) is heavy, so plan departures around it. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast; pull off safely if winds gust hard. Pro tip: nervous about city driving? Choose RV delivery in Des Peres and skip the interstate altogether, your host brings the rig to you.
modot.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Des Peres offer?
You'll find a wide range, from full-hookup resorts to rustic state park loops. The Eureka KOA and Sundermeier RV Park offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Babler State Park has electric sites, modern restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station near the entrance. 370 Lakeside in St. Peters and Pin Oak Creek in Villa Ridge offer pull-throughs sized for big rigs. Fresh water fills are standard at every full-hookup site. Pro tip: at Missouri State Parks, electric-only sites are cheaper than full hookup, fill water and dump on the way out to save money.
mostateparks.com/page/55027/campingWhat's actually inside the RV I'm renting in Des Peres?
Even modest rigs come well-equipped. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (most sleep 4 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, and often an oven, plus a full bathroom with toilet and shower. Roof AC and furnace are standard, and most Class C and Class A motorhomes include a generator for boondocking. Many listings add a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor speakers, and some hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Every seat used while driving has a seatbelt, important for family RV trip Des Peres plans with kids. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check the photo gallery for kitchen and bath layout before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Des%20Peres%2C%20MissouriWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Des Peres make trips easy with optional add-ons like camping kits (chairs, table, outdoor rug), kitchen and linen packages, generators, bike racks, propane refills, and Wi-Fi hotspots, typically $10 to $50 each. Delivery is the biggest add-on, with fees based on distance from the host's location. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting spot near I-270, and most hosts offer flexible windows. Mileage policies vary: many include 100 to 150 free miles per day with extra miles around $0.35 to $0.50, while some offer unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a full camping kit if you're flying into St. Louis, you'll step off the plane and straight into vacation mode.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Des%20Peres%2C%20MissouriHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book; never pay a host directly outside the platform, that protects your booking and your protection plan. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, with the amount set by the host and visible at checkout. As long as you return the RV on time, clean, with the same fuel and propane level, and undamaged, the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: take a quick video walkaround at pickup and drop-off in your Des Peres driveway, it's the easiest way to keep the deposit return smooth and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Des Peres in winter, and is it worth it?
Yes, winter RV rental in Des Peres is doable and often cheaper. Many RVezy hosts offer four-season rigs with enclosed, heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and shore power capability so you stay toasty even when St. Louis dips into the 20s. Some private parks like Sundermeier in St. Charles operate year-round, giving you a reliable home base. Bundle up for the Anheuser-Busch Brewery Lights, ice skating at Steinberg Rink in Forest Park, or a quiet Mississippi River sunset. Pro tip: ask the host to confirm the RV is winter-ready, and run a small space heater on shore power to save propane during longer cold snaps.
