Camping near Ellisville, Missouri
Ellisville sits in west St. Louis County, giving RV travelers quick access to the Meramec River corridor, the Route 66 alignment, and the wooded ridges of the Missouri River bluffs. Most bookable sites are within a 20 to 40 minute drive, split between a state park campground, private resort parks, and an interstate KOA on the western edge of the metro.
Babler State Park (formally Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park) is a public recreation area in the northwest section of Wildwood, Missouri, and is the closest public campground to Ellisville. Private options nearby include Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Six Flags for families visiting the amusement park, a second Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort in the region, St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday along the I-44 corridor, and Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates across the river in Illinois.
The area works well as a base for St. Louis city attractions while keeping the rig parked in forested or resort-style surroundings.
Things to do near Ellisville
Babler Memorial State Park offers diverse outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and fishing. Visitors come to explore the interpretive center, old-growth forests, and miles of trail, with hiking, biking, and horseback riding as popular activities. Trails wind through forests, meadows, and wetlands, and are good places to see birds, mammals, and reptiles.
Off-park draws are close. Six Flags St. Louis sits minutes from Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Six Flags, making that resort a natural pick for families building a trip around the coasters. The St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday aligns with drives along the historic highway, and downtown St. Louis, the Gateway Arch, and Forest Park are all within an easy day-trip radius from any of the Ellisville-area campgrounds.

Peak seasons for Missouri camping include late spring, early summer, and early fall. As spring temperatures warm in May, the trees fill with leaves and the fields fill with wildflowers. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day are the busiest window at both the state park and the private resorts, and holiday weekends often book out months in advance.
Summer is hot and humid. The climate of the St. Louis area is continental, with cold winters and hot summers, and quite frequent thunderstorms. Spring is the rainiest season due to clashes between air masses and afternoon thunderstorms, which continue through the summer, although gradually less frequently. Fall brings cooler nights, drier air, and strong hardwood color through October.
Winter camping is possible but stripped down. At Babler, during the off-season of November through March, potable water is available at a frost-free spigot near the campground, and modern restrooms and the showerhouse are closed during the off-season.

How to book a campsite
Babler State Park offers basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water campsites. Reservations are available year-round and can be made online or by calling 877-422-6766. Missouri State Parks campsites can be reserved up to 12 months in advance, expanded from the previous six-month window. The state system operates through icampmo.com.
Private parks use their own booking channels. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Six Flags, the second Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort, and St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday all take reservations directly on their brand websites or by phone. Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates leans toward longer stays, so contact the office directly to confirm nightly RV availability before planning a short trip.
What to expect on arrival
RVers and tent campers at Babler will find campsites mostly under a canopy of trees, with both basic and electric sites available. A recent renovation upgraded a set of campsites that now offer sewer, water, and 50-amp electrical service, so big rigs have full-hookup options inside the state park. Park gates close in the evening, earlier during the off-season, and campers without reservations should arrive prior to gate closure.
Private resorts run differently. The two Yogi Bear parks lean into family programming, pools, and themed activities. The KOA sits close to the interstate, useful for short overnight stops on a Route 66 itinerary. Expect tighter site spacing and more pavement at the private parks compared with the forested loops at Babler.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ellisville, MO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ellisville, MO?
RV rental in Ellisville is one of the more affordable ways to explore the St. Louis metro area, with most listings on RVezy ranging from about $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers and pop-ups, and $175 to $325 per night for Class C motorhomes and larger Class A rigs. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by price range and sort by best value to find a cheap RV rental in Ellisville that still has the features you want. Booking midweek, traveling outside of Six Flags peak weekends, and looking at travel trailers (which need a tow vehicle but cost less) are the easiest ways to save. Pro tip: bundle 5+ nights and many Ellisville hosts unlock weekly discounts automatically at checkout.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ellisville,%20MissouriDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ellisville, Missouri?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ellisville, Missouri. The state's standard Class F license covers personal-use recreational vehicles, so you can drive a campervan, Class C motorhome, or tow a fifth wheel without a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement. You must be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver on RVezy, and you will upload a photo of your license during the quick in-app ID confirmation. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you are set. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how straightforward the Missouri rules are.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an RV in Ellisville?
Every RV rental in Ellisville booked through RVezy comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your reservation, so you can hit Highway 40 or Interstate 44 with confidence. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you can match the peace of mind to your comfort level. Coverage details and tiers are outlined in the RVezy Help Center, giving you transparent financial protection if something unexpected happens on your Ellisville RV trip. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter heading to a busy spot like Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka, opting up to a higher protection tier costs a little more per night and removes almost all of the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Ellisville RV rental?
You can book your Ellisville RV trip without sweating a change of plans. RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that, refunds depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel and whether unusual circumstances like a named storm or natural disaster come into play (severe Missouri thunderstorms in spring are a real thing). The full, current policy lives in the RVezy Help Center and is applied automatically, so you do not need to negotiate with the host. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Ellisville motorhomes, knowing you have wiggle room if work or weather shifts your plans.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Ellisville RV trip?
Absolutely, Ellisville is a fantastic place for a pet-friendly RV rental, and many hosts in the St. Louis west suburbs welcome dogs. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching RVs in Ellisville and you'll see every listing where Fido is invited (some hosts charge a small pet cleaning fee, shown upfront). Once you're on the road, leashed dogs are welcome at Babler State Park in nearby Wildwood, Rockwoods Reservation, and the paved trails at Bluebird Park right in Ellisville. Castlewood State Park along the Meramec River is another local favorite for off-leash-friendly hikes on designated trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and ask about their favorite dog-friendly campgrounds nearby, most are happy to share their go-to spots.
mostateparks.com/page/55146/pets-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Ellisville?
Yes, RV delivery in Ellisville is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers who would rather not drive a big rig down Manchester Road or Clarkson Road on day one. Many Ellisville-area hosts will deliver the RV directly to your campground (St. Louis West/Historic Route 66 KOA in Eureka, Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles, or Pin Oak Creek RV Park are common drop spots), set it up on the pad, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Pro tip: filter by Delivery in your search and message hosts about a stationary setup, it turns a motorhome rental in Ellisville into an instant glamping cabin.
koa.com/campgrounds/st-louis/How does mileage work, and how far can I realistically travel from Ellisville?
Plenty far. Ellisville sits right off Highway 40/I-64 with quick access to I-44 and I-70, putting tons of destinations within an easy day's drive: Lake of the Ozarks is about 175 miles southwest (3 hours), Branson is roughly 250 miles (4.5 hours), Mark Twain National Forest is about 130 miles south, Memphis is around 285 miles, and Chicago is 300 miles northeast. Each host sets the daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), with extra miles billed at $0.30 to $0.50 each. If you're planning a longer Ellisville RV road trip, look for listings that advertise unlimited mileage or a higher daily cap, both are common on RVezy. Pro tip: map your route before booking and message hosts about adding a flat-rate mileage bundle, many will customize for multi-day trips.
modot.org/Where are the best campgrounds to stay near Ellisville?
You're spoiled for choice on RV camping in Ellisville. Top picks within a short drive include St. Louis West/Historic Route 66 KOA in Eureka (about 10 minutes south, full hookups and a pool, walkable to Six Flags), Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park in Wildwood (about 15 minutes north with electric sites in a forested setting), Meramec State Park near Sullivan (an hour south on I-44, riverfront sites and Fisher Cave tours), Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles (35 minutes northeast, full hookups and Katy Trail access), and Pin Oak Creek RV Park in Villa Ridge (45 minutes west, big-rig friendly). Pro tip: state park sites release on a 6-month rolling window through the Missouri State Parks reservation system, so set a calendar reminder if you want a riverside spot at Meramec in summer.
mostateparks.com/park/dr-edmund-babler-memorial-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Ellisville?
Mid-April through early June and September through late October are the sweet spots for an Ellisville RV trip. Spring brings dogwood and redbud blooms across the Meramec River valley, with daytime highs in the 60s to 70s. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, perfect for floating the Meramec or hitting Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags, just make sure your RV has solid air conditioning. Fall is arguably the prize season: crisp 60-to-75-degree days, golden-orange Ozark foothills, and quieter campgrounds. Winter rentals are available too (rigs with heated tanks and furnaces are best) for low-rate getaways. Pro tip: book mid-September for the magic combo of warm days, cool nights, and Missouri wine-country harvest events near Augusta and Hermann.
weather.gov/lsx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know how to use it?
Yes, and most first-time renters in Ellisville are surprised how quickly it clicks. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or delivery), covering driving basics, leveling, awning, generator, water, propane, dump procedure, and how to hook up at the campground. Bring your phone, record the orientation, and ask every silly question, that's literally what hosts are there for. If you'd rather skip the driving altogether on your first trip, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at a nearby campground like St. Louis West KOA in Eureka. The smaller Class B campervan rental in Ellisville is also a great confidence builder because it drives much like a tall minivan. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings with 5-star reviews, those hosts are pros at first-timer onboarding.
nps.gov/articles/rving-for-beginners.htmWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
Help is always one tap away. Every Ellisville RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of your protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, dead batteries, fuel delivery, and towing if needed, whether you are parked at Castlewood State Park or broken down on I-44 near Rolla. You will also have your host's direct number for questions about quirks like how the awning retracts or where the fuse panel is. And RVezy's customer support team is reachable around the clock through the app if you need help mediating anything. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and any reference numbers before you leave the driveway, it makes any roadside call dramatically faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an Ellisville RV across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, crossing state lines is totally normal for an RV road trip from Ellisville, and most hosts are happy to send you toward Illinois, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, or up into Iowa and Wisconsin. Popular interstate runs include Ellisville to Memphis (about 4.5 hours via I-55), Ellisville to the Smoky Mountains (8.5 hours via I-64), and Ellisville to Chicago (5 hours via I-55). Travel into Canada may also be allowed depending on the host and the protection package you select, so message them before booking to confirm and discuss border documentation. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a quick Illinois hop across the Mississippi gets you to Shawnee National Forest in under 3 hours for an underrated weekend escape.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much will I spend on fuel for an Ellisville RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's predictable. Missouri averages around $3 per gallon for regular (often the cheapest in the Midwest), and Ellisville stations along Clarkson and Manchester Roads frequently come in below the state average. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A or large Class C, 12 to 16 MPG for a Class B campervan rental in Ellisville, and 10 to 14 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. A 300-mile weekend in a Class C runs about $90 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy or AAA TripTik app and fill up in Missouri before crossing into Illinois, where fuel is typically $0.50 to $1 more per gallon.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=MOHow far in advance should I book a campground near Ellisville?
For the best campgrounds near Ellisville, plan 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and 1 to 2 months for shoulder seasons. Missouri State Parks (Babler, Meramec, Robertsville, Onondaga Cave) open reservations on a rolling 6-month window through icampmo1.usedirect.com, and the popular electric sites at Babler and Meramec often book out within minutes of opening for July and October weekends. Private parks like St. Louis West KOA and Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles can usually be booked 30 to 60 days out, even in peak season. Pro tip: if you strike out on weekends, target a Sunday-through-Thursday trip, you'll often walk into your pick of riverfront sites and pay weeknight rates that are 20 to 30 percent lower.
icampmo1.usedirect.com/MoStateParks/What are driving conditions like around Ellisville?
Driving an RV in Ellisville is genuinely easy, the suburb sits on rolling terrain with wide, well-paved roads and quick access to I-64, I-44, and Highway 141. Avoid downtown St. Louis arteries like I-70 through the city during rush hour (7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm), and watch for low clearances on a few historic underpasses east of I-270; sticking to interstates keeps you clear at the standard 13'6" RV height. Summer brings strong afternoon thunderstorms, so check the National Weather Service St. Louis forecast before long driving days, and winter can deliver occasional ice on the rolling hills west of town. Pro tip: if city driving makes you nervous, book a host who delivers, you will skip metro traffic entirely and start your trip relaxed at the campground.
weather.gov/lsx/What hookups and amenities will I find at Ellisville-area campgrounds?
Most campgrounds near Ellisville offer the works. Private parks like St. Louis West KOA in Eureka and Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles have full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, showers, and pools. Missouri State Parks, including Babler and Meramec, typically offer electric and electric/water sites plus modern shower houses and central dump stations, but sewer at the site is less common. For dumping and freshwater fills on the road, Babler State Park, Meramec State Park, and St. Louis West KOA all have public dump stations (small fee if you're not staying). Pro tip: ask your host whether the RV has a built-in fresh water tank with at least 30 gallons, that lets you boondock at electric-only sites without running back to the spigot.
mostateparks.com/page/55066/campingWhat's actually inside the RVs I'll find in Ellisville?
Ellisville listings cover the full spectrum, from cozy 19-foot campervans up to 35-foot Class A motorhomes that sleep eight. Expect a queen or king bed, a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof A/C, a furnace, and seatbelted seating for everyone riding while moving. Many Class C motorhomes in Ellisville also include a bunk over the cab (great for kids), an outdoor speaker, and a generator for off-grid power. TVs, Wi-Fi hotspots, solar, and backup cameras are increasingly common, just check the listing's Features section. Pro tip: for a family RV trip in Ellisville with kids, sort by Sleeps 6+ and filter for bunk beds, you will find rigs purpose-built for parents who want a door between them and the kids' room.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ellisville,%20MissouriWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Most Ellisville hosts offer practical add-ons that make your first trip smoother: linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75 flat), camp chairs and outdoor mats ($15 to $25), portable grills, generators, bike racks, and even pre-stocked starter pantries. Delivery and setup is the headline add-on, often $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Standard pickup is from the host's driveway in Ellisville, Wildwood, Ballwin, or Chesterfield, with a 30-to-60-minute walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary (100 to 150 free miles per day is typical), and generator hours are sometimes capped on Class A rentals. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and camp chairs on your first booking, the small upcharge buys back hours of prep time and makes the trip feel like checking into a hotel.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionHow do payments and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, no cash or checks change hands with the host. When you book your RV rental in Ellisville, MO, you will pay the rental total, taxes, your chosen protection plan, and any selected add-ons by credit or debit card right in the app. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released after your safe return, assuming no damage or excess mileage. To avoid any deposit hassles: take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off, return it with the agreed fuel and tank levels, and stay within your mileage allowance. Pro tip: message the host the day before pickup to confirm the deposit timing, it makes the whole exchange feel effortless.
