Camping near Weldon Spring, Missouri
Weldon Spring sits in St. Charles County along the Missouri River, roughly 27 miles west-northwest of downtown St. Louis. The area is best known to RV travelers as a jumping-off point for Katy Trail State Park and the surrounding conservation lands, with easy access to Highway 94 and I-64.
Campground options run from wooded state park sites to full-service commercial resorts. Babler State Park has a 75-site campground set in a wooded setting within about 30 minutes of the St. Louis metro area, offering basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water sites. Just across the Missouri River in Defiance, Beyond the Trail RV Park sits right off the Katy Trail and behind Good News Brewery in Missouri wine country.
Families visiting Six Flags St. Louis usually base out of Eureka, either at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Six Flags, a wooded resort with pool, mini-golf, arcade, and family activities, or at St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday, located on Historic Route 66 within a short drive of Six Flags and about 30 minutes from the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, and the Missouri Botanical Garden. A second Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort in the wider area rounds out the family-park options.
Things to do around Weldon Spring
The Katy Trail is the main draw. The Katy Trail is the country's longest continuous recreational rail trail, running 240 miles largely along the northern bank of the Missouri River, and the Weldon Spring trailhead offers restrooms, water, and a bike-tuning stand for day rides and multi-day tours toward Augusta, Defiance, and St. Charles.
Hikers head to the adjacent Weldon Spring Conservation Area, where the Lewis and Clark Trail climbs to bluff overlooks of the Missouri River and the Lost Valley Trail invites hikers and mountain bikers for a longer loop with connectors to the Katy Trail. Lewis and Clark Trail has the most elevation gain with 869 ft of total ascent, and Lost Valley Trail Loop has 744 ft of elevation gain. Boaters can launch on the Missouri River, and anglers fish local lakes for catfish, crappie, and bass. Families with kids often combine outdoor days with Six Flags St. Louis, Purina Farms, and the wineries around Defiance and Augusta.

The region has four distinct seasons in a humid climate. Peak seasons for Missouri camping include late spring, early summer, and early fall; as spring temperatures warm in May, the trees fill with leaves and the fields fill with wildflowers, summer temperatures peak in the high 80s or 90s through July and August, and as temperatures cool in the fall, the forest erupts in color. Spring is the wettest stretch, and spring also produces the most tornadoes in Missouri, with severe thunderstorms common from March through May.
Shoulder season is often the best window for RV trips. Weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, and October leaf-peeping fill up fastest.
Winter access varies. Babler's campground is open year-round, but showers are only available April 1 through October, and park gates close at 9 p.m. during the on-season and 6 p.m. during the off-season. Commercial parks near Six Flags typically run a shorter calendar, and Beyond the Trail RV Park operates on an April 1 through early December season.

How to book and reservation tips
Missouri State Parks handle Babler reservations through the state's central system. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance, expanded from the previous six-month window, and walk-up reservations are accepted on non-book reservable campsites. Reservations may also be made by calling toll free 877-ICampMO (877-422-6766).
Private parks book directly. The Eureka Jellystone, the St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday, and Beyond the Trail all take reservations through their own websites or by phone, and holiday weekends near Six Flags routinely sell out weeks ahead.
Check rig-length limits before booking. Babler sites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs up to 45 feet, and Beyond the Trail lists a 70-foot max RV length with pull-throughs and full hookups.
What to expect on arrival
Terrain around Weldon Spring is rolling and heavily wooded, and several campgrounds sit on hillsides. Big-rig drivers should read site notes carefully at the family resorts, where sites can vary in size and levelness.
The KOA and Jellystone parks are family-oriented with pools, mini-golf, and organized activities. Babler is quieter and wooded, with a visitor center, amphitheater, and 13 miles of trail. Beyond the Trail has 33 sites including 13 tent sites, 6 pull-throughs, 20 full hookups, 50-amp and 20-amp service, tables, water, showers, a dump station, internet, and is pet friendly.
Cell coverage is generally good near the interstates but spottier along the river bluffs. Firewood advisories apply at state parks, and pets must be leashed at all listed campgrounds.

September through late October is the local favorite, with crisp air, fewer bugs, and stunning fall foliage along the Missouri River bluffs. Summer (June through August) gets hot and humid with highs near 90 degrees, perfect for river days but pricier rentals. Winter rentals are available too, with January lows around 23 degrees, ideal for a cozy heated-cabin-on-wheels weekend. weather.gov/lsx/I've never driven an RV before. How does this work?

You can also message the host any questions before booking right from the listing page. If you would rather skip city driving entirely, choose a delivery-included listing and the RV will be set up at your campsite when you arrive. Pro tip: start small, a Class C motorhome or campervan rental Weldon Spring drives much like a large van and is the friendliest option for first-timers heading out to Babler or the Katy Trail.
rvezy.com/What happens if I break down on my Weldon Spring RV trip?
You are covered, every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Klondike Park or rolling down Interstate 70. The service handles common road issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to a qualified repair shop. Your host is also a great first point of contact for quirks specific to their RV. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave Weldon Spring. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around each morning, checking tire pressure and lights takes 5 minutes and prevents most roadside hiccups on a Missouri RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take a Weldon Spring RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

You are free to cross into Illinois (just over the Mississippi River), Iowa, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, or Kansas, and many hosts welcome longer hauls to Canada with advance notice and a quick conversation. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Popular interstate routes include Weldon Spring to Nashville (about 320 miles) and Weldon Spring to Branson (about 230 miles via Highway 65). Pro tip: message the host before booking if your itinerary crosses borders, they may need to confirm cross-border travel is OK and update your trip details.

Missouri consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, often 20 to 40 cents per gallon below the national average. Expect Class B campervans to get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG. For a 300-mile weekend loop to Lake of the Ozarks and back in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $140 in fuel at current Missouri prices. Pro tip: fill up at Costco or Sam's Club in nearby Chesterfield before you leave town, prices are typically the cheapest in the St. Louis metro.

Summer thunderstorms can bring sudden heavy rain, and winter occasionally drops ice or snow from December through February.
