Camping near Wildwood, Missouri
Wildwood sits in western St. Louis County, roughly 30 miles from downtown St. Louis and within easy reach of the Meramec River valley. The area blends suburban access with wooded terrain on the eastern edge of the Ozark foothills, giving RV renters a mix of state park camping, private resorts, and interstate-adjacent RV parks all within a short drive of Interstate 44 and Highway 100.
The closest public option is Babler State Park, a 2,441-acre state park in the northwest section of Wildwood that offers hiking, picnicking, bicycling, horseback riding, and camping. Private options cluster along the Route 66 corridor near Eureka and Six Flags St. Louis, including Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Six Flags, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort, St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday, and Beyond the Trail RV Park.
Most campgrounds in the corridor are open to Class A, Class C, travel trailer, and camper van rentals, and the flat, paved access at private parks makes them workable for first-time RV renters.
Things to do around Wildwood
Babler State Park anchors the outdoor options. The park's Civilian Conservation Corps-era stone architecture, along with hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails, sits just minutes from St. Louis, making it a practical day base for families. The Meramec River and Rockwoods Reservation add fishing, paddling, and short hikes within a 20-minute drive.
Families traveling with kids tend to build itineraries around Six Flags St. Louis and Hurricane Harbor in nearby Eureka, the Purina Farms interactive animal center, and the Route 66 State Park museum. Downtown St. Louis attractions, including the Gateway Arch, the free Saint Louis Zoo, City Museum, and the Missouri Botanical Garden, are all reachable in under an hour from most Wildwood-area campgrounds.

How to book a campsite near Wildwood
Babler State Park uses the Missouri State Parks reservation system. The campground features fully reservable basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water sites, with a dump station on site, and reservations can be made online at icampmo.com or by calling 877-422-6766. Missouri State Parks now allows campers to reserve a site up to 12 months in advance, expanded from the previous six-month window.
A recent renovation upgraded 35 campsites at Babler to offer sewer, water, and 50-amp electrical service, which suits larger rental RVs. Private options, including the two Jellystone Park locations, the St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday, and Beyond the Trail RV Park, are booked directly through each property's website or franchise portal and tend to release summer weekends and holidays first.
What to expect on site
Babler offers a mix of site types, including basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water campsites, plus an organized group camp and a special-use camping area. Park gates close at 9 p.m. during the on-season and 6 p.m. during the off-season, so campers without reservations need to arrive prior to gate closure. During the off-season from November through March, potable water is available at a single frost-free spigot while the modern restrooms and showerhouse are closed.
Private parks along the Route 66 corridor lean family-focused, with pools, playgrounds, and themed activities at the Jellystone locations, and pull-through full-hookup sites at the KOA and Beyond the Trail RV Park. Firewood should be sourced locally to comply with Missouri firewood advisories.
