The Missouri River drives most trip planning. Fly fishers head south to the tailwater near Craig FWP, one of the most productive trout stretches on the upper Missouri, while paddlers and float-fishers put in at access sites strung along the river between Great Falls and Fort Benton. In town, the River's Edge Trail follows both banks of the Missouri past the falls that gave the city its name, with paved miles suitable for kids on bikes. The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center, the C.M. Russell Museum, and Giant Springs State Park are all within a few minutes of Black Eagle. Day trips reach First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park, Freezout Lake for spring and fall bird migrations, and the Rocky Mountain Front near Choteau. Glacier's east entrance is roughly 180 miles north via US-89.

Chinook winds can spike temperatures well above freezing for hours at a time, then drop them back below zero just as quickly.

Great Falls sits at the edge of the northern plains, so roads are wide, sightlines are long, and most commercial parks are easy to enter with a larger motorhome or trailer. Urban sites tend to be closer together with paved or gravel pads, while riverside FAS sites are more spread out, less level, and often gravel or dirt. Wind is the defining weather factor. Gusts along the Rocky Mountain Front regularly exceed highway-driving comfort, so check forecasts before towing between Great Falls and Choteau or over Marias Pass. Cell coverage is strong in and around Black Eagle on the major carriers and thins quickly on backroads. This is bear country. Bears can be anywhere in western, central, and southern Montana, and populations continue to grow and expand into areas they haven't lived in for decades, so use bear-resistant food storage and keep a clean camp at every site, not only in the forest.
