Campgrounds and RV parks near Clarence Center, NY

Niagara Falls State Park is the marquee day trip, with viewing platforms, the Cave of the Winds, and the Maid of the Mist boat tour on the American side. Buffalo adds waterfront trails, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, and Bills and Sabres game-day options. The Erie Canal runs through nearby Lockport and Pendleton, with lock tours and towpath cycling. At Darien Lakes State Park, activities include biking, basketball, disc golf, horseback riding, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, picnicking, and wintertime snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The park has a total of 154 campsites, 141 with electricity and 13 primitive sites without, plus a beach, bridle path, picnic tables, post grills, playgrounds, campsites and a dump station. Families travelling with kids often pair a Niagara day with a stop at Six Flags Darien Lake, which sits directly beside Darien Lake Campground.

The camping season in western New York is short and weather-driven. Most nearby campgrounds operate from spring through mid-fall, with private parks winding down by late October. At Darien Lakes State Park, shelter reservation season is daily, May 1st through September 30th, and campsite loops follow a similar warm-weather window. Summer is peak. July and August bring the warmest, driest stretch and the busiest weekends, especially near Niagara Falls and Six Flags Darien Lake. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in mid-summer, and holiday weekends often sell out weeks in advance. Spring is cool and wet, with lingering chill off Lake Erie. Fall brings cooler nights and colour through the Niagara Escarpment, but many private parks close by mid-October. Winter camping is limited: at Darien Lakes, multiple-use trails stay open for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling, though the campground itself is closed. The first measurable snows can be expected in mid to late November, but ground cover is sporadic until mid-December. Many of Buffalo's large snowstorms however occur in late November to early December.

Sites in the area are a mix of gravel and grass pads, with state-park loops at Darien Lakes tending to be more wooded than the private resorts. The park's campsites are equipped with electricity, except for the 13 primitive sites. There are heated comfort stations and showers. Hookups vary. Private resorts like Niagara County Camping Resort and Darien Lake Campground typically offer full or partial hookups, while state parks provide electric only with a shared dump station. There is a maximum of two vehicles per site. You must be at least 18 years of age to reserve a campsite. Pets are generally welcome. The park allows pets in all its campsites, current rabies certificate and a leash (max. 6ft long) required. Expect some road or train noise at parks closer to main highways, and mosquitoes in low-lying wooded areas after summer rain.
