The Lake Ontario shoreline north of the city is the main draw for swimming, sandy beaches, and shoreline trails, while the Genesee River corridor cuts through downtown Rochester with waterfalls at High Falls and, further south, the deep gorge and waterfalls of Letchworth State Park. Cyclists and paddlers can pick up the Erie Canalway Trail, which runs directly through the Rochester area. South of the city, Canandaigua Lake and the western Finger Lakes offer boat launches, wineries, and small-town main streets.
