Lancaster sits in Erie County just east of Buffalo, giving RV travelers quick access to Niagara Falls, Lake Erie, and the western Finger Lakes. Most campgrounds within an hour's drive cluster along the I-90 corridor between Buffalo and Rochester, with the largest concentration near Darien Center in neighboring Genesee County.
Darien Lakes State Park anchors the public-camping options with 141 electric campsites plus 13 primitive sites on hilly, wooded terrain around twelve-acre Harlow Lake. Cherry Hill Campground, directly across from the Six Flags property, offers a quieter rustic alternative on 63 acres with no hookups but a dump station and potable water. AA Royal Motel and Campground rounds out the nearby roster for travelers wanting simple overnight service off the interstate.

How to book campsites near Lancaster
Darien Lakes State Park reservations are handled through the New York State Parks system on ReserveAmerica, either online or by calling 1-800-456-2267. Campsite bookings can be made up to nine months in advance, and reservers must be at least 18. Walk-ins are permitted on campsites only, and there is a two-night minimum stay.
Private parks use their own systems. Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground accepts online reservations through its website, and Cherry Hill Campground takes bookings through its website and third-party platforms like Campspot and Hipcamp. Cherry Hill collects a cash site security deposit at check-in that is returned at check-out if the site is left clean and undamaged.
Book summer weekends and any Darien Lake concert dates as far ahead as the system allows.
What to expect on-site
Site style varies widely across the area. Darien Lakes State Park offers electric sites plus a small number of primitive sites, heated comfort stations, and hot showers, with pets allowed at all campsites provided owners carry a current rabies certificate and use a leash no longer than six feet. There is a two-vehicle maximum per site and a two-pet limit.
Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground accommodates RVs up to 65 feet on 30- and 50-amp hookups with city water, pull-throughs, laundry, and a dump station. Cherry Hill Campground is rustic: sites have picnic tables and fire rings but no electric or water hookups, so RVers dry camp, run off battery, or use quiet inverter generators, then refill at potable water stations and use the on-site dump station.
Expect busier, noisier weekends near Darien Lake and quieter mid-week stays.
