Campgrounds near North Collins
North Collins sits in southern Erie County, roughly a half hour south of Buffalo and a short drive from the Lake Erie shoreline. RV renters use it as a quiet base between the lake, the Boston Hills, and the Cattaraugus Creek valley, with campgrounds ranging from a state park beach to full-service resorts across the Ontario border.
Evangola State Park's major attraction is its beautiful arc-shaped shoreline and natural sand beach on Lake Erie, with low cliffs of Angola shale lining the edge of the beach. North of Fort Erie, Ontario, Windmill Point Park is built around a refreshing 12-acre spring-fed quarry with a sandy beach and family activities. Pleasant Beach Campground, a Sun RV Resort in Sherkston, Ontario, offers cabin rentals and spacious seasonal RV sites, with a gated property, playground, shuffleboard and basketball courts.
Inland options include Allegany Mountain Members Resort, a private membership park in the Southern Tier hills, and Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores, a large lakefront resort across the Peace Bridge. Renters crossing into Canada should carry passports and confirm propane and generator rules with each park.
Things to do near North Collins
Lake Erie is the main draw. Evangola State Park offers swimming, picnic facilities, baseball, tennis, and basketball courts alongside the campsites, and the park also includes several nature trails, pavilions, playing fields, and a playground, with the beach within walking distance of the campground. Warm-month visitors focus on biking, fishing, hiking, and picnicking, while winter visitors enjoy snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
Across the Niagara River, day trips run to Niagara Falls, Crystal Beach, and the Ridgeway area. From the Sherkston side, families head to Crystal Beach for beach-town restaurants and shopping, visit the Fort Erie waterfront, and bike the paved Friendship Trail that runs past Windmill Point.
Closer to the RV, wineries along the Lake Erie Wine Trail, the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum in Salamanca, and Allegany State Park make easy inland detours.

The camping window on the U.S. side runs roughly mid-April to late October at Evangola State Park, matching the standard New York season. Summer brings the warmest lake water and the busiest weekends; sites at Evangola and the Ontario resorts should be locked in well ahead of holiday weekends.
Shoulder season is the sweet spot for renters who want space. Late May, June, and September deliver mild days, cooler nights, and open sites, though lake winds can be sharp. Fall color across the Boston Hills and Zoar Valley peaks in early to mid-October, and hunting seasons open in state forests, so check regulations before hiking off-trail.
Winter effectively closes most campgrounds. Buffalo has a humid continental climate, notably characterized by very snowy winters, often enhanced by lake-effect snowfall from the Great Lakes. Winter visitors to Evangola use the park for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing rather than RV camping.

This was my third year renting a camper for our family camping weekend and this was, by far, my best experience. Gary & Kim thought of everything we’d need and wowed me with their presentation of the camper once it was set up. I definitely found my camper for years to come!

How to book a campsite near North Collins
Camping reservations for Evangola State Park go through the New York State Parks reservation system via ReserveAmerica.com or 1-800-456-CAMP, and reservations can be made up to nine months in advance. Reservations made within seven days of arrival can be for a single night, and this applies to campsites only. A camping party and their equipment may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights, after which the party and equipment must leave the facility for 48 hours before registering again.
Windmill Point Park and Pleasant Beach book directly through their own online systems, with Pleasant Beach offering seasonal RV sites and cabin rentals but no overnight RV sites. Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores books through the Sun Retreats site. Allegany Mountain Members Resort is a private club, so confirm eligibility before planning a stop.
What to expect
Expect a mix of shoreline parks and inland resorts. At Evangola, quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and are strictly enforced, and all patrons must be 21 to possess or consume alcohol. Current proof of rabies inoculation is required at check-in, and metal tags will not be accepted. The campground has three loops with different electrical options, so specify whether a 30-amp, 50-amp, or tent site is needed when booking.
Across the border, resorts like Sherkston Shores and Windmill Point run more like family activity centers, with quarries, beaches, and organized programming. Cell coverage is generally strong along Route 5 and the QEW, weaker in the hills south of Gowanda. Border crossings require passports, and cannabis, firearms, and certain produce cannot cross either direction.
