Campgrounds and RV parks near Ahoskie, NC

Water is the main draw. Cashie River Campground and RV Park has boat launch access for motorboats and kayaking along the Cashie River, with fishing popular year-round. Green Acres Camping Resort adds family amenities on site, including pools, mini golf, and a fishing lake. Merchants Millpond State Park offers 10 miles of hiking trails and 5 miles of biking trails, with boat rentals available for exploring the millpond's placid waters. The park protects old-growth bald cypress trees adorned with Spanish moss at the northernmost point of the American alligator's range. Six paddle-in campsites sit on Bennetts Creek, reached by a 4.5-mile paddle from the launch. Away from the water, day trips reach historic Edenton on Albemarle Sound, the Roanoke River National Wildlife Refuge, and, roughly two hours east, the Outer Banks beaches.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Ahoskie. Daytime highs are comfortable, humidity is lower, and biting insects are less aggressive than in midsummer. Wildflowers, migrating waterfowl at nearby refuges, and clear paddling days on the Cashie River and Bennetts Creek make March through May and mid-September through October the sweet spots. Summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and peak insect activity in the swamps. Sites at family parks such as Green Acres Camping Resort fill on holiday weekends, so book well ahead. Late summer through October also overlaps the Atlantic hurricane season, and coastal-plain parks occasionally close ahead of tropical systems. Winter is mild by northern standards but damp and cool. Private parks in the area, including Cashie River Campground and RV Park, operate year-round. The tent and trailer family campground at Merchants Millpond State Park is closed due to pending construction until further notice, so check current status before planning a state-park stay.

Expect small-town infrastructure and rural roads. Fuel, groceries, and RV supplies are available in Ahoskie, Windsor, Edenton, and Williamston, but selection is limited compared with larger metros. Cell coverage is uneven in the swamps and along river bottoms. Site quality varies. Cashie River Campground has 6 pull-through sites with 30- and 50-amp hookups, 8 back-in sites, and four tent sites, with water, sewer, and electricity at each RV site. The park accepts big rigs up to about 60 feet and offers a bathhouse with showers, laundry, and a boat launch. Bring insect repellent, sun protection, and a plan for shade. Alligators inhabit Merchants Millpond, so keep pets leashed and children close near the water.
