Campgrounds and RV parks near Aulander, NC

Water access defines the region. Kayaking and canoeing the Cashie and Roanoke rivers are the main draws, with launches at Cashie River Campground and RV Park and the Roanoke-Cashie River Center in Windsor. The Roanoke River State Trail travels through the largest and least disturbed bottomland hardwood forest ecosystem in the mid-Atlantic, and paddlers may spot bears, beavers, river otters, white-tailed deer, bobcats, and over 200 bird species. For families staying at larger parks, on-site recreation fills easy days. Green Acres Camping Resort offers pools, a camp store, mini-golf, boat and kayak rentals, fishing, and playgrounds. Rocky Hock Campground has a fishing pond, paddle boats, a par-3 golf course, and boat ramp access to the Chowan River. Historic Edenton, Merchants Millpond State Park, and Outer Banks beaches all make workable day trips from campgrounds in the area.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel in this part of North Carolina. April through early June brings warm days, lower humidity, and blooming cypress swamps, while mid-September through October delivers cooler nights and better paddling conditions. Ahoskie averages about 133 days of comfortable weather per year, with the best time to visit falling April to mid-June and mid-September to October. Summer is hot, humid, and buggy. The hottest month is July, with an average high near 89°F and average low near 69°F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September. September is typically the wettest month, averaging around six inches of precipitation, and flooding on the Roanoke and Cashie rivers can affect paddle-in sites and boat ramps. Winter is mild by northern standards but wet, and hunting seasons affect access on some public lands. There is no camping on Roanoke River Partners platforms during deer and large-game hunting season from the end of September until early January. Several private RV parks in the area, including Cashie River Campground and RV Park, remain open year-round.

This is rural eastern North Carolina, so expect two-lane roads, long stretches between fuel and grocery stops, and generally quiet campgrounds. Cell service is inconsistent under tree cover, though most private parks provide Wi-Fi at the office or common areas. RV pads at the closer parks range from gravel pull-throughs to shaded back-ins. Cashie River Campground and RV Park includes six pull-through sites with 30 and 50 amp hookups, eight back-in sites with water, sewer, and electricity, and four tent sites in the center of the campground. Reservation and check-in there are online only, with no personnel onsite. Bugs, humidity, and heat are real factors from late spring through early fall. Bring insect repellent, screen shelters if tent camping, and plan cooler outdoor activity for mornings and evenings. Pets are welcome at most of the listed campgrounds, typically on leash.
