Campgrounds near Badin, North Carolina
Badin sits on the western shore of Badin Lake in Stanly County, roughly an hour northeast of Charlotte. The town borders the Uwharrie National Forest and is within a short drive of Morrow Mountain State Park, giving RV travelers a compact base for lake recreation, hiking in one of the oldest mountain ranges in North America, and Piedmont day trips.
Campground options in the area run from full-hookup private parks to state and national forest sites. Morrow Mountain State Park operates a family campground with electric and non-electric loops just across Lake Tillery. Cotton Patch RV Campground in nearby New London offers big-rig-friendly full hookups, while Norwood Campground and Tamarac Marina and Campground sit closer to the lake for boaters. Holly Bluff Family Campground provides a family-oriented private option within reach for weekend trips.
The combination of reservoir shoreline, forest trails, and small-town services makes Badin a practical stop for both weekend campers from the Carolinas and travelers moving along the I-73 and I-85 corridors.
Things to do near Badin
Water activity dominates. Badin Lake and Lake Tillery both allow boating, paddling, swimming, and fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie, with public ramps scattered along both shorelines. Tamarac Marina and Campground provides direct lake access for guests bringing kayaks or small boats.
On land, Morrow Mountain State Park offers hiking to the namesake summit, a seasonal swimming pool, horseback riding trails, and a natural history museum. Uwharrie National Forest adds hiking, mountain biking, and a designated off-highway vehicle trail complex reached from the Badin Lake Recreation Area.
Families staying at Cotton Patch RV Campground can try recreational gold panning at the adjoining Cotton Patch Gold Mine. Historic downtown Albemarle, about ten to fifteen minutes away, covers grocery runs, restaurants, and hardware needs.

The Uwharrie region has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and muggy, with July highs averaging around ninety degrees Fahrenheit and afternoon thunderstorms common. Winters are mild by national standards but can bring freezing overnight lows and occasional light snow in January and February. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for camping, with lower humidity, cool nights, and manageable daytime temperatures.
Demand follows the weather. Morrow Mountain State Park campsites, especially the electric sites in Loop C, fill quickly on summer weekends and holidays. The North Carolina state parks booking window opens six months ahead of arrival, so peak dates should be locked in early.
Uwharrie National Forest campgrounds in the Badin Lake Recreation Area, including Arrowhead and Badin Lake Campground, are generally open year-round, though some upper-loop sites and OHV trails see seasonal closures. Fall foliage in October and hunting seasons through late fall also shape site availability, so travelers should check current forest orders before arrival.

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Zack was very helpful and accommodating with all the questions and concerns I had and I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Pick up and drop off was very flexible. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as it should.

Cannot say enough good things about our experience renting from Corey. Very helpful with the renting process and what to expect. I chose the drop off option and it went very smooth - Corey gave a detailed rundown of the RV making sure I knew the basics. Everything was as described, well maintained, and just what we were looking for for our few days away. Corey was quick to respond when I had any questions and made sure everything was good. Highly recommend renting from Corey!
