The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro is the primary regional draw and sits within a short drive of Zooland Family Campground and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Asheboro. Uwharrie National Forest surrounds much of the area and offers hiking, mountain biking, and OHV trails, along with access to Badin Lake and Tuckertown Reservoir. Morrow Mountain State Park offers recreation in and around the waters of Lake Tillery and the Yadkin/Pee Dee River, with miles of trails to travel on foot or horseback, plus a summit overlook worth the drive. Golfers can reach the Pinehurst courses within about a half hour. Families camping at Sycamore Lodge Resort will find a swimming pool and hot tub area, a stocked lake, paddle and fishing boats, canoes, mini-golf, nature trails, a playground, and horseshoes, and the Yogi Bear parks add jump pillows, playgrounds, and weekend event schedules.

Summers in the Candor area are hot and humid, with July afternoon highs near 90°F and thunderstorms common. Sites at private resorts fill on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Morrow Mountain State Park applies a two-night minimum stay on Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day holiday weekends, reduced to one night if booked within 14 days of arrival. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. April through early June and mid-September through October bring mild days, lower humidity, and reliable trail conditions. Fall foliage in the Uwharries typically peaks in late October and early November. Hurricane remnants can occasionally track inland from the Atlantic in late summer and early fall, bringing heavy rain. Winters are short but chilly, with overnight lows regularly dropping below freezing and occasional light snow between January and March. Sycamore Lodge Resort is open year-round, while some state park amenities and private resort features scale back between late fall and early spring. Confirm hookup and bathhouse availability before booking a winter trip.

Private resorts in the area lean family-oriented. Sycamore Lodge Resort has about one-third of the park in full hookups with the remainder water and electric only, and amenities include a swimming pool and hot tub area, a stocked lake with paddle boats and canoes, mini-golf, nature trails, a playground, cabins, and an air-conditioned bathhouse. Zooland Family Campground provides shaded sites, a pool, mini-golf, and walking trails. Morrow Mountain State Park Campground spreads across three loops within rolling Piedmont terrain, with paved roads connecting sites ranging from primitive tent spots to full hookup RV accommodations. The wooded setting provides ample shade and spacing between most sites, though some sites present leveling challenges with slopes that can make setup difficult. Cell coverage is generally usable at the private resorts and patchier inside the state park. The park bath house has hot showers but the facilities are older.
