Campgrounds and RV parks near Cedar Point, NC

Water access defines the area. Canoeing, kayaking, and fishing are popular on the White Oak River, and a small-craft boat ramp and fishing pier inside the Cedar Point Recreation Area make launches straightforward. The shallow water suits flat-bottom boats, and paddlers can navigate a maze of canals through the salt marsh. On foot, the Tideland Trail is a boardwalk loop of about two miles that winds through salt marsh and coastal forest, with ospreys and the occasional dolphin visible from the walkways. Guests at Waterway RV Resort or Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort For Campers are within a short drive of the beaches on Bogue Banks and Emerald Isle, plus Hammocks Beach State Park, which offers ferry access to the undeveloped barrier-island beaches of Bear Island.

The Crystal Coast has a long warm season. Summers are long, warm, and often oppressive, while winters are cool and windy, and the area stays wet and partly cloudy year round. Peak demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when private resorts near the beach fill first and weekend reservations at Cedar Point Campground go quickly. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is lower, and the coastal trails and paddling routes are at their best. October in particular tends to be drier and clearer after the peak of hurricane season subsides. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the greatest tropical activity typically from August into October. The Cedar Point Recreation Area is subject to temporary closure in advance of hurricanes and tropical storms, and reservations are automatically cancelled and refunded when a weather-related closure occurs. The campground stays open year round, and several private parks also operate through winter, though beach amenities are limited in the off season.

At Cedar Point Campground, the single paved loop has 36 accessible sites with 20/30/50-amp electric service, a picnic table, a lantern post, and a fire ring with grate at each site. Individual sites do not have water hookups; campers fill fresh tanks at potable water spigots located throughout the loop and use a central dump station. A modern bathhouse provides private hot showers and accessible flush toilets, and the campground gate closes at 10 p.m. and reopens at 6 a.m. The nearby private resorts generally offer full hookups, larger pull-through sites, pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Expect biting insects in the salt marsh from late spring through early fall, and pack for sun exposure on the beach and along the boardwalks.
