Lake Norman State Park sits at the northern end of Lake Norman, North Carolina's largest man-made lake with over 500 miles of shoreline, roughly 40 miles south of Conover, and camping options extend to more remote experiences in the mountainous terrain west of town.

For state park sites, Lake Norman State Park uses the North Carolina State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. The campground has 44 sites, with sites 1 to 32 offering no hookups and sites 34 to 44 offering full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer. Six camper cabins are also available. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, and a two-night minimum applies on major holiday weekends. Private parks such as 321 RV Park, Indian Springs Campground, Cross Country Campgrounds, Lake Norman Motor Coach Resort, and Hiddenite Family Campground take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Motorcoach and large Class A rigs should confirm site length, turning access, and hookup amperage before booking.
