Campgrounds and RV parks near Denton, NC

Water recreation drives most trips. High Rock Lake provides boating and fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, striped bass, catfish, and bream. High Rock Lake Marina and Campground and Tamarac Marina and Campground both offer direct ramp access, and boat-slip rentals are common at the marinas. On land, the adjacent Uwharrie National Forest is the main draw. The Uwharries offer roughly 40 miles of tree-shaded horse trails winding through the forest, shared with hikers and mountain bikers, plus more than 17 miles of dedicated off-highway vehicle trails in the Badin Lake Recreation Area. Families often add a day trip to the North Carolina Zoo near Asheboro or to Dan Nicholas Park, which packs a carousel, gem mine, mini golf, paddleboats, and a small native-wildlife zoo into one property. Cotton Patch RV Campground lets guests try gold panning and sluicing on site.

The Piedmont has four distinct seasons, and each shapes the RV experience differently. Spring runs mild and green, with wildflowers along Uwharrie trails and lake temperatures still cool for swimming. It is also one of the busier reservation windows once school breaks arrive, so book weekends well in advance. Summer is peak season. Days are hot and humid, thunderstorms are common in the afternoon, and lakefront sites at High Rock Lake Marina and Campground and Tamarac Marina and Campground fill early. Expect strong demand around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. Pool amenities at family campgrounds typically operate from late spring through Labor Day. Fall is the sweet spot for many RV renters. Temperatures drop, humidity eases, and the hardwoods across the Uwharries turn color through October and early November. Dan Nicholas Park hosts its long-running Autumn Jubilee on the first weekend of October, drawing regional visitors for craft vendors and live entertainment. Winter is quieter but usable, with several lake-area private campgrounds staying open year-round and Uwharrie campgrounds such as Badin Lake Campground offering a year-round retreat for swimmers, boaters, and anglers.

Expect a mix of full-hookup private parks and simpler public campgrounds. High Rock Lake Marina and Campground offers full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric, pull-throughs, cable, propane, cabin and boat rentals, wireless internet, and direct waterfront access with a marina and boat ramp. Holly Bluff Family Campground offers shaded sites with hookups, a pool, mini golf, and a game room, and Cotton Patch RV Campground provides full-service pads with a camp store. Public sites are more rustic. Badin Lake Campground borders the lakeshore under pines and hardwoods, with tables, grills, fire rings, and tent pads at each site and flush toilets and showers on the loops. Dan Nicholas Park operates a county-run campground that includes lakeside sites on its fishing lake. Cell coverage is generally good near the lake and thinner deeper into the Uwharries. Bring bug spray from late spring through early fall, and confirm big-rig length limits when booking wooded loops.
