Campgrounds near Enfield, North Carolina
Enfield sits in Halifax County along the I-95 corridor in the northeast North Carolina coastal plain, between Rocky Mount and Roanoke Rapids. The town works well as a base for RV travelers routing between the Northeast and Florida, and for trips built around the Roanoke River valley, Lake Gaston, and nearby state parks.
Campground options in the area range from full-hookup interstate stops to state park tent and trailer loops. Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey is the closest franchise park to town and is oriented toward overnight I-95 travelers. The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads offers a larger resort-style setup, while Lake Gaston RV and Camping Resort and The Club Resort at Lake Gaston - Members serve travelers focused on the reservoir north of town.
For a quieter, natural setting, Medoc Mountain State Park lies roughly a half hour west and provides a wooded state park campground on Little Fishing Creek. Together these properties cover most common RV needs in the Enfield area.
Things to do near Enfield
Outdoor activity in the area centers on water and woodland. Lake Gaston stretches across the North Carolina and Virginia line and supports bass fishing, boating, swimming, and lakeside day use, with public ramps scattered around its shoreline. Guests at Lake Gaston RV and Camping Resort and The Club Resort at Lake Gaston - Members typically build trips around the reservoir.
Medoc Mountain State Park offers hiking trails through hardwood forest, paddling on Little Fishing Creek, mountain biking, and ranger programs. Closer to Enfield, the Roanoke River corridor and Historic Halifax State Historic Site cover Revolutionary-era North Carolina history.
Rocky Mount, about twenty minutes south, adds groceries, restaurants, the Rocky Mount Mills district, and the Tar River Trail for walking or cycling between camp days.

Enfield has a humid subtropical climate. Summer, from June through August, is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and mosquitoes and ticks are active in wooded parks like Medoc Mountain. Interstate stops such as Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey stay busy through summer with I-95 travelers, and Lake Gaston sites fill quickly around Memorial Day, July Fourth, and Labor Day weekends.
Spring and fall are the strongest RV seasons here. March through May brings blooming dogwoods and comfortable daytime temperatures, and September through early November delivers cool nights, lower humidity, and fall color in the hardwoods around Medoc Mountain State Park.
Winter is mild but variable. Daytime highs are often in the low fifties Fahrenheit, hard freezes occur at night, and occasional winter storms can drop rain, ice, or light snow. Some private resorts reduce services or close amenity buildings in the off season, while Medoc Mountain State Park and the I-95 KOA generally remain open year round with limited facilities.
How to book campgrounds near Enfield
Reservation systems vary by operator. Medoc Mountain State Park is booked through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system, which allows online booking up to six months in advance and requires reservations to be made at least one day before arrival. Holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, July Fourth, and Labor Day carry a two-night minimum stay and fill early, so booking well ahead is recommended.
Enfield / Rocky Mount KOA Journey uses the KOA national reservation platform through koa.com or the KOA app, with member discounts available. The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads and Lake Gaston RV and Camping Resort accept reservations directly through their own websites or by phone.
The Club Resort at Lake Gaston - Members is a membership property, so access is limited to owners, members, and their invited guests rather than the general public.
What to expect
Terrain around Enfield is flat to gently rolling coastal plain, so most private campgrounds offer level pull-through and back-in sites suited to larger rigs. Full hookups with thirty and fifty amp service are common at the KOA, Carolina Crossroads, and Lake Gaston resorts. Medoc Mountain State Park is more rustic, with a mix of electric and non-electric family sites, a bathhouse with hot showers, and an on-site dump station, though full hookups are limited.
Cell coverage is generally reliable along the I-95 corridor and weaker inside the state park. Summer humidity, biting insects, and afternoon storms are normal, so screen rooms, bug spray, and awning tie-downs are useful.
Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Rocky Mount or Roanoke Rapids rather than in Enfield itself.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Enfield, NC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Enfield, NC?

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Enfield%2C%20North%20CarolinaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Enfield, NC?

North Carolina does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers listed on RVezy, including Class A, Class C, and fifth wheels. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and you'll upload a photo of your valid driver's license through RVezy's secure ID verification at checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. Most first-time renters in Enfield are pleasantly surprised by how quickly the approval process moves.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Enfield RV trip plans change?
Booking your Enfield RV trip is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. That means consistent, predictable rules whether you book a campervan rental in Enfield or a 32-foot Class C. There is a money-back grace period after booking, plus accommodations for major disruptions such as hurricanes tracking up the Carolina coast or other natural disasters that could affect your trip. The most current terms are spelled out clearly on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. Pro tip: book early to lock in summer Lake Gaston dates, knowing you have flexibility if life changes.

Once you arrive, your pup will love the trails at Medoc Mountain State Park about 20 miles west in Hollister, which allows leashed pets on hiking trails, and the shaded sites at Enfield/Rocky Mount KOA Journey are dog-friendly with a pet walk area. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any breed or size details and ask about cleaning expectations so check-out is smooth.
ncparks.gov/state-parks/medoc-mountain-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or address in Enfield?
Yes, RV delivery in Enfield is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome straight to Enfield/Rocky Mount KOA Journey, Medoc Mountain State Park, or a private address, then level it, connect power and water, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and enter your destination to see hosts who serve the Enfield area. Delivery fees typically run by the mile from the host's home base. Pro tip: ask about setup and pickup being included so you can focus on the campfire, not the hitch.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Enfield%2C%20North%20CarolinaHow do mileage policies work, and how far can I drive from Enfield?
Mileage on your Enfield RV rental is straightforward: each host sets a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with a small per-mile fee beyond that, and some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great for longer loops. From Enfield you're well positioned: Raleigh is about 75 miles southwest, Virginia Beach about 130 miles northeast, the Outer Banks (Nags Head) roughly 160 miles east, and Washington, DC around 230 miles north up I-95. Each listing shows the mileage policy before you book, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: if you're planning a big Outer Banks loop, filter for unlimited-mileage rigs and roam without watching the odometer.

ncparks.gov/state-parks/medoc-mountain-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an Enfield RV trip?
The sweet spot for an Enfield RV trip is mid-March through May and again from mid-September through early November, when daytime highs sit in a comfortable 65 to 80 F range. Summer (June through August) brings hot, humid days with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s F and pop-up thunderstorms, which is still great if you're heading to Lake Gaston to swim. Winters are mild for the East Coast, with highs around 50 F and only occasional light snow, so off-season RV camping near Enfield is very doable. Local tip: visit in late April to catch dogwoods and azaleas blooming along the trails at Medoc Mountain State Park.
weather.gov/mhx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Enfield?
You'll do great, and you won't be on your own. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, awning, slide-outs, water, propane, and dump procedures so you leave feeling confident. Enfield is actually one of the easier places in North Carolina to learn: traffic is light, I-95 and US-301 are flat and straight, and there are no tight mountain switchbacks or coastal bridges to worry about right out of town. Start with a smaller Class C or travel trailer if you're nervous, and ask the host about delivery so your first drive is just to dinner. Pro tip: practice backing into your KOA pull-through during daylight on day one.
ncdot.gov/initiatives-policies/safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my trip?
You're never stuck alone. Every motorhome rental in Enfield booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so one call gets a real person dispatched for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, or towing along I-95, US-64, or the back roads to Lake Gaston. RVezy's support team is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center, and your host is just a message away if you have a question about how the generator works or where the spare tire is hiding. The nearest larger service hubs are Rocky Mount (about 15 miles south) and Roanoke Rapids (about 18 miles north). Pro tip: snap a photo of your VIN and rig dimensions at pickup so any service call goes faster.

Popular routes include the Outer Banks loop through Nags Head and Cape Hatteras (about 160 miles east), the Blue Ridge Parkway and Asheville (around 280 miles west), Charleston, SC for low-country charm (about 320 miles south), and Washington, DC for monuments and museums (about 230 miles north). For a shorter weekend, Lake Gaston is just 30 miles away. Cross-border note: travel into Virginia is no problem, but trips to Mexico are not permitted on RVezy rentals. Budgeting fuel for your Enfield RV trip is easy once you know the rough numbers. Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 MPG, Class C around 10 to 14 MPG, campervans (Class B) 16 to 20 MPG, and trucks pulling travel trailers usually 9 to 12 MPG. eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Enfield?
For the most popular weekends, book your campsite 3 to 6 months ahead, especially Medoc Mountain State Park, which uses the NC State Parks reservation system and opens bookings 6 months in advance to the day. Enfield/Rocky Mount KOA Journey is bookable directly through koa.com and usually has availability 2 to 4 weeks out since it's primarily a stopover park. Lake Gaston campgrounds like Americamps fill quickly for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, so reserve those 4+ months early. Pro tip: if you strike out at Medoc Mountain, watch for cancellations, which often pop up 7 to 14 days before a weekend as plans change.
ncparks.gov/passport/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Enfield, NC?

The terrain is gently rolling coastal plain with no mountains, switchbacks, or tunnels to navigate, and I-95, US-301, NC-481, and NC-48 are wide, well-maintained, and RV-friendly. Watch for occasional summer thunderstorms (slow down and pull off if visibility drops), deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and the usual I-95 holiday weekend congestion around Richmond, VA to the north.
