Camping near Granite Quarry, North Carolina
Granite Quarry sits in Rowan County just south of Salisbury, in the central Piedmont region of North Carolina. The town is a short drive from Interstate 85, which puts campers within easy reach of Charlotte to the south and Winston-Salem and Greensboro to the north. The surrounding landscape mixes rolling farmland, hardwood forest, and the reservoirs of the Yadkin River chain, most notably High Rock Lake.
RV renters have a compact but varied set of choices within a short drive. Dan Nicholas Park, a Rowan County park east of Salisbury, offers a wooded county-run campground built around a small lake and family attractions. Cross Winds Family Campground near Linwood provides full-hookup RV sites just off I-85. Tamarac Marina and Campground and High Rock Lake Marina and Campground both put visitors on the water at High Rock Lake, and Carolina Rose Campground rounds out the private options.
Most parks in this area are open year-round, and the climate allows a long shoulder season on either side of summer.
Things to do near Granite Quarry
High Rock Lake is the main draw. It covers about 15,180 acres with roughly 365 miles of shoreline and is well known for largemouth bass and crappie fishing, boating, and paddling. High Rock Lake Marina and Campground and Tamarac Marina and Campground provide direct lake access, boat ramps, and slip rentals, so trailered boats and rented pontoons are practical from these sites.
Families traveling with kids tend to base out of Dan Nicholas Park, which pairs its wooded campground with an aquarium, nature center, gem mine, carousel, train ride, mini-golf, splash pad, and paddle boats on the 10-acre Lake Murtis. Admission to the park itself is free, with fees on individual attractions.
Off-site day trips include historic downtown Salisbury, the North Carolina Transportation Museum in nearby Spencer, and Lexington, a well-known barbecue town south of the lake.

Central North Carolina has a humid subtropical climate with four clear seasons and no long closed period for most private campgrounds. April, May, September, and October usually offer the most comfortable trip windows, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, so wooded and waterfront sites can get soft after storms.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon highs commonly in the upper 80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. This is peak season on High Rock Lake, so lakefront and pull-through sites at High Rock Lake Marina and Campground and Tamarac Marina and Campground fill early. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out well in advance.
Winters are cool rather than harsh, with occasional freezes and only light, infrequent snow. Some seasonal amenities such as pools and snack bars close, but the campgrounds themselves generally stay open.

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Zack was very helpful and accommodating with all the questions and concerns I had and I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Pick up and drop off was very flexible. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as it should.

Cannot say enough good things about our experience renting from Corey. Very helpful with the renting process and what to expect. I chose the drop off option and it went very smooth - Corey gave a detailed rundown of the RV making sure I knew the basics. Everything was as described, well maintained, and just what we were looking for for our few days away. Corey was quick to respond when I had any questions and made sure everything was good. Highly recommend renting from Corey!

How to book campgrounds near Granite Quarry
There is no single reservation system for this area. Dan Nicholas Park is run by Rowan County and takes camping and cabin reservations through its own online system or by phone through the campground store. Its 70-site campground includes a mix of powered and non-powered sites, with six cabins in a separate loop.
The private parks each handle their own bookings directly. High Rock Lake Marina and Campground, Tamarac Marina and Campground, Cross Winds Family Campground, and Carolina Rose Campground all accept phone or online reservations through their own websites.
For summer weekends and any holiday period, plan to book four to eight weeks out, and longer for lakefront sites. Weeknights and shoulder-season stays are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in this area are typically wooded and reasonably level, with a mix of back-in and pull-through configurations. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are standard at the private lake and highway campgrounds, while the county-run Dan Nicholas Park has powered and non-powered sites plus cabins, with a dump station on site.
Check-in at Dan Nicholas is 3 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m., and other parks in the area follow similar mid-afternoon and late-morning windows. Some parks close their gates in the evening and provide an access code at check-in, so plan to arrive during office hours when possible. Cell coverage varies by carrier and can be spotty in the wooded loops, though most parks provide Wi-Fi near the office or bathhouse.
Pets are welcome on leash. Bring bug spray in summer, a shade setup, and lake-safe shoes if you plan to swim or launch a boat.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Granite Quarry, NC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Granite Quarry, NC?
RV rental in Granite Quarry is one of the most affordable ways to explore the North Carolina Piedmont. Travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes average $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches can reach $300 or more. Because RVezy is a peer-to-peer marketplace, hosts set their own pricing, so you can filter by price and find a cheap RV rental in Granite Quarry that fits your budget. Booking midweek or during the shoulder months of March and November usually drops nightly rates noticeably. Pro tip: bundle add-ons like camp chairs, generators, or linen packages directly through the listing instead of buying them separately, you will save real money before your first campfire.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Granite%20Quarry%2C%20North%20CarolinaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Granite Quarry?
Good news: a regular North Carolina Class C driver's license (the standard license most people already carry) is all you need to rent an RV in Granite Quarry for virtually every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. North Carolina only requires a non-commercial Class B for single vehicles over 26,000 pounds GVWR, and almost all Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels on the platform fall well under that threshold. RVezy approved drivers must generally be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification happens right inside RVezy during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you are set to roll.

Every RV rental in Granite Quarry booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. During checkout you choose the level of protection that fits your trip, and the plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle so you can drive toward High Rock Lake or the Uwharrie National Forest with peace of mind. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection for renters. Roadside help is built in too, whether you need a tire change on US-52 or a tow off NC-152. Pick your coverage at booking and focus on the fun part: planning your campfire menu.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Granite Quarry RV trip changes?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and there is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, the refund amount depends on how far out your trip is and which RVezy cancellation tier applies. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you are never left without options. You will see the specific cancellation terms during checkout and in your confirmation email. Book now, lock in the dates you want, and adjust later if life happens.

High Rock Lake shorelines are also dog-friendly for splashing around. Bring a tie-out, waste bags, and proof of vaccinations. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size limits so check-in is seamless.
rowancountync.gov/268/Dan-Nicholas-ParkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Granite Quarry?
Yes, RV delivery in Granite Quarry is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV directly to your chosen campground (Dan Nicholas Park and Tamarac Marina Campground on High Rock Lake are common drop-offs), level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location and are shown on the listing. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see only hosts who offer it. No towing, no setup stress, just show up and start the trip.

Dan Nicholas Park (about 5 miles south) offers shaded sites with electric and water hookups, a nature center, and a gentle lake. Cobble Hill RV Campground in Salisbury (10 minutes north) has 84 full-hookup sites that fit big rigs. Pro tip: weekends from April through October fill fast, so reserve as soon as your dates are set.
rowancountync.gov/268/Dan-Nicholas-ParkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Granite Quarry?
Granite Quarry has one of the longer camping seasons in the country thanks to its mild Piedmont climate. Spring (April to early June) brings daytime temperatures in the 70s, blooming dogwoods, and comfortable nights in the 50s, ideal for first-time renters. Fall (late September through early November) is the local favorite: crisp 60s and 70s, lower humidity, and stunning leaf color when you drive west toward the Blue Ridge. Summer highs regularly hit the upper 80s and low 90s with high humidity, so you will want a rental with strong air conditioning. Winter daytime highs in the 40s and 50s mean many hosts rent year-round. Insider pick: book a mid-October week to chase peak foliage.
weather.gov/gsp/I am a first-time renter, will I know how to use everything?
First time renting an RV? You are in great hands in Granite Quarry. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or delivery), walking you through the generator, propane, slide-outs, water system, dump valves, and dashboard quirks. You can text or call your host throughout the trip with questions, and RVezy's 24/7 support is one tap away from inside the app. Most renters tell us they feel confident within an hour of pulling out of the driveway. Pro tip: ask your host to show you how to back into a site and how to level on uneven ground, both come in handy at wooded sites like Dan Nicholas Park.
rvezy.com/helpWhat happens if I break down during my Granite Quarry RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking in Granite Quarry includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If you have an issue on I-85, US-52, or a back road heading toward Uwharrie, one phone call gets a professional dispatched to your location. Your host is also a direct line for quirky RV questions (think 'why is the awning beeping?'). Save both numbers in your phone before you pull away from pickup. Pro tip: Rowan County has solid cell coverage on major routes, but service can dip in the Uwharrie forest, so screenshot key contacts before heading in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Granite Quarry RV rental into other states or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Granite Quarry across state lines is easy and common. Most hosts allow travel throughout the continental US, so you can roll into Virginia (Shenandoah is about 4 hours north), South Carolina's coast (about 4 hours southeast), Tennessee's Smokies (around 3.5 hours west), or Georgia (4 hours southwest). Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message them directly before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Always confirm your route on the listing page so your protection package travels with you.
ncdot.gov/travel-maps/Pages/default.aspxHow much should I budget for fuel on a North Carolina RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your budget, so plan smart. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A coaches sit around 6 to 10 MPG. North Carolina gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and you will find affordable diesel and unleaded at major stops along I-85 in Salisbury and Concord, just minutes from Granite Quarry. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 for fuel. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up in Rowan County rather than near tourist towns like Asheville where prices climb.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Granite Quarry?
Reserve early and you will land the prime spots. North Carolina State Parks (bookable through the official reservation portal) open campsite reservations up to 11 months in advance, and lakeside sites at parks like Morrow Mountain and Lake Norman go fast for summer weekends. For Uwharrie National Forest campgrounds like Badin Lake, use Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Private parks near Granite Quarry such as Cobble Hill and Tamarac Marina take direct reservations and usually require 2 to 4 weeks lead time in peak season. Pro tip: weeknights are easier to score and often cheaper, perfect for stretching your RV camping Granite Quarry adventure into a long weekend.
ncparks.gov/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like for an RV in Granite Quarry?
Driving an RV around Granite Quarry is refreshingly easy. The town sits at about 760 feet elevation in the rolling Piedmont, with mostly flat to gently hilly terrain. US-52 and I-85 run right through Rowan County with wide lanes and plenty of truck-friendly exits, perfect for Class C motorhome rental Granite Quarry trips. Watch for summer afternoon thunderstorms (they roll through fast and can cut visibility) and the occasional winter ice event between December and February. Avoid narrow downtown Salisbury streets with a big rig and use the bypass instead. Pro tip: Highway 49 toward the Uwharrie is scenic but has tight curves, take it slow and enjoy the view.
ncdot.gov/travel-maps/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Granite Quarry?
You will find a great mix. Most full-service parks near Granite Quarry, like Cobble Hill RV Campground and Tamarac Marina, offer 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Dan Nicholas Park provides electric and water but uses a central dump station rather than sewer at each site. For dumping and filling fresh water between trips, the Flying J in Salisbury (just off I-85) has a public dump station for a small fee. Uwharrie National Forest sites at Badin Lake are more primitive with vault toilets and no hookups, true RV camping Granite Quarry style. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot freshwater hose and a 30-amp-to-50-amp adapter to handle any site.
rowancountync.gov/268/Dan-Nicholas-ParkWhat features and amenities come with the RVs in Granite Quarry?
Granite Quarry rentals come fully equipped for comfort. Expect a queen or king bed, dinette and sofa that convert to extra sleeping space, a full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, roof AC, propane furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger seat. Many motorhome rental Granite Quarry listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a built-in generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi hotspots, Starlink, bike racks, and outdoor grills are common add-ons. Each listing shows exactly what is included plus the sleep count. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 6' or higher for a family RV trip Granite Quarry, and message the host to confirm linens are included.
rvezy.com/What are the most popular add-ons and pickup options in Granite Quarry?
Hosts in Granite Quarry offer practical add-ons that make life easier: linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees if you bring a dog. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Granite Quarry, but many offer delivery directly to campgrounds like Dan Nicholas Park or Tamarac Marina for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, so look for unlimited or generous daily caps if you are road-tripping to Asheville or the coast. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking, hosts often discount packages, and you avoid last-minute store runs in Salisbury.
visitnc.com/How do payments and the security deposit work for my Granite Quarry RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and secure through RVezy. You pay for your booking using a credit or debit card at checkout, and the host is paid after you pick up the RV. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (the amount is shown clearly on each listing) and released after the trip if the RV is returned clean, on time, and undamaged. To avoid any issues: do a quick photo walkaround at pickup and drop-off, return with the same fuel and propane level, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: keep your check-in photos in a dedicated phone album for easy reference.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I find dump stations and fresh water near Granite Quarry?
You have several convenient options near Granite Quarry. The Flying J Travel Center off I-85 in Salisbury offers a public dump station and potable water fill for a small fee. Dan Nicholas Park has a dump station available to registered campers, and Tamarac Marina Campground on High Rock Lake provides dump and fill access on-site. If you are heading toward Uwharrie National Forest, top off before you leave town because backcountry sites are primitive. Pro tip: dump on your way out rather than the morning of departure, you will skip the lines and start your drive home with empty tanks and a fresh water reserve for emergencies.
