Campgrounds and RV parks near High Point, NC

Water recreation anchors most stays. A valid North Carolina fishing license is required to fish at Oak Hollow Campground and the marina, and registered campers can launch powered and non-powered boats from the marina, though launch fees are paid at the marina prior to launching. Swimming in Oak Hollow Lake is not allowed because it serves as the drinking water reservoir for the City of High Point, but registered campers can use the campground pool during operating hours. Off the water, the High Point Museum, Piedmont Environmental Center trails, and the shops on North Main Street handle a rainy afternoon. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Asheboro sits just a few miles from the North Carolina Zoo, which is the most common day-trip target for families staying in the area. Golfers can play adjacent to camp at Oak Hollow Golf Course, and tennis courts, a marina, and a grill room sit within walking distance of the campsites.

The Piedmont delivers four usable camping seasons, but each has trade-offs. High Point residents enjoy a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, mild winters, and long fall and spring months. Spring, from mid-March through May, brings dogwood bloom, comfortable daytime temperatures, and a busy reservation window around the spring High Point Furniture Market. Fall carries similar weather with lower humidity and strong foliage in October. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. High Point averages 42.3 inches of precipitation annually, and July thunderstorms account for much of it. Pool access at Oak Hollow and Jellystone Asheboro is at its peak, and Jellystone's themed activity weeks run from Memorial Day through early August. Winter camping is quiet and viable. Snow from the Midwest is usually light when it reaches the area and is seldom on the ground for more than two or three days, though freezing temperatures occur on more than half of winter days. Book around the Furniture Market dates in April and October if avoiding a sold-out region is the goal.

Oak Hollow has a specific set of rules worth knowing before arrival. Check-in starts at 2 p.m., campers must register in the office by 7:30 p.m., late check-in is not permitted, and check-out is by noon. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the entrance gate is closed from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Roof-top tents are not permitted, and camping in cars or trucks is not allowed. Site layout is practical rather than resort-style. All full-hookup sites are back-in with either 30 or 50 amp service, a single water spigot serves two adjacent slips without a splitter, and the paved RV slips are sloped, so leveling blocks are needed. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Asheboro is open year-round with seasonal themed activities, and amenities are exclusively for camping guests with no day passes offered.
