Campgrounds and RV parks near Hudson, NC

Hudson sits in Caldwell County in the western North Carolina foothills, along the US-321 corridor between Hickory and the Blue Ridge escarpment. The town is small and functions as a practical base for RV trips into the mountains without the traffic of Boone or Blowing Rock. Elevation is around 1,200 feet, so summer nights cool off more than they do farther east in the Piedmont. Campground options within an easy drive range from private RV parks with hookups to a large state park with a small developed campground. Green Mountain Park and Indian Springs Campground sit close to Hudson itself. Riverside Golf and RV Park adds a hookup-based option for travelers who want a longer stay near the foothills, and Leatherwood Mountains Resort sits along the banks of Elk Creek in Ferguson, offering 30-amp power and water hookup camp sites year round on a wooded campground beside Elk Creek alongside cabin rentals and horseback riding. For a state-park experience, the Family Campground at South Mountains State Park, one of the state's largest state parks, known for its rugged mountains, scenic vistas, and challenging trail systems, lies southwest of Hudson and provides tent sites plus a small number of RV-friendly sites.

North Carolina state park sites, including the Family Campground at South Mountains State Park, are reserved through the state parks reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made for today and up to 6 months in advance, online or by phone. Cancellation and refund policies are handled by the reservation service, so travelers should review the current terms at the time of booking. Private campgrounds like Leatherwood Mountains Resort, Riverside Golf and RV Park, Indian Springs Campground, and Green Mountain Park handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. For peak fall-color weekends and summer holidays, reserve two to three months out. For shoulder-season midweek stays, a week or two of lead time is usually enough.
