Campgrounds and RV parks near Lawndale, NC

Lawndale sits in Cleveland County in the western North Carolina foothills, roughly midway between Shelby and Morganton. The area works well as an RV base for exploring the South Mountains, lake recreation on John H. Moss Reservoir, and day trips west toward the Blue Ridge escarpment. Camping options within a short drive cover a range of styles. Moss Lake Campground sits on a recreational area with over 2,000 acres and 57 miles of shoreline on John H. Moss Lake, with waterfront sites and boat access. The Family Campground at South Mountains State Park anchors a large state park with backcountry and equestrian options nearby. Buffalo Creek Campground, Hidden Trails RV Park, and Broad River Campground round out the closer private and semi-private choices for RV travelers. Roads into the foothills are two-lane and winding in places, so trip planning should account for slower speeds on the last few miles into any state park or lake access.

Reservations can be made for today and up to six months in advance. Refunds and cancellations must be handled by calling ReserveAmerica at 877-722-6762. Moss Lake Campground reservations are handled online through Campspot. Private campgrounds such as Hidden Trails RV Park and Broad River Campground typically take direct bookings by phone or on their own sites, and Buffalo Creek Campground reservations should be confirmed with the operator. Regardless of reservations, all campers at South Mountains State Park must stop at the Visitor Center to register their vehicle and receive a hang tag to display.
