Camping near Millingport, North Carolina
Millingport is a small unincorporated community in Stanly County, North Carolina, sitting in the Uwharrie Lakes Region between Badin Lake and the Yadkin/Pee Dee River corridor. The area combines the rolling countryside of the Piedmont plateau with the waters of Lake Tillery and the Yadkin/Pee Dee River, giving RV travelers access to lake recreation, forested trails, and the ancient Uwharrie Mountains.
Campgrounds in the surrounding area range from full-hookup private parks to state and county facilities. Cotton Patch RV Campground in nearby New London is big-rig friendly and features full hookups with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electrical connections, on-site Wi-Fi, and a general store. Tamarac Marina and Campground sits on High Rock Lake with direct boating access, and Norwood Campground serves travelers heading toward Lake Tillery.
For public-land options, Morrow Mountain State Park lies just east of Albemarle, and Dan Nicholas Park is operated by Rowan County to the north. Together these five properties cover most rig sizes and trip styles within a short drive of Millingport.
Things to do around Millingport
Water recreation drives most trips. Badin Lake, Lake Tillery, and High Rock Lake are the main draws for boating, paddling, and fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, and bream. Uwharrie National Forest borders portions of Badin Lake, keeping much of the shoreline wooded and quiet.
On land, Morrow Mountain State Park offers hiking, roughly 19 miles of bridle trails, and a seasonal swimming pool, with the Morrow Mountain summit road a popular short drive inside the park. The surrounding Uwharrie National Forest adds the 29-mile Uwharrie National Recreation Trail plus miles of mountain biking and horse trails, and about 17 miles of dedicated off-highway vehicle trails at the Badin Lake OHV Trail Complex.
Families traveling with kids often build a day around Dan Nicholas Park, which includes a nature center, animal habitats, a carousel, a train, a gem mine, and a small fishing lake with paddle boats.

The Millingport area follows a humid subtropical pattern typical of the North Carolina Piedmont. Winter highs generally run in the low 50s with lows near freezing, summer brings highs in the upper 80s and low 90s with high humidity, and shoulder seasons stay pleasant with highs in the 60s and 70s.
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Days are warm, nights are cool, and Uwharrie hardwoods put on a color show from mid-October into early November. Summer weekends fill quickly at lakeside sites, especially around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, when North Carolina state parks apply a two-night minimum stay on holiday weekends.
Winter camping is viable at Morrow Mountain State Park, which is open year round, and at select Uwharrie National Forest sites. Some private campgrounds reduce hours in the coldest months, so confirming operating dates before arrival is worthwhile. Prescribed burns are conducted seasonally in Uwharrie National Forest and can produce short-term smoke near recreation areas.

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Cannot say enough good things about our experience renting from Corey. Very helpful with the renting process and what to expect. I chose the drop off option and it went very smooth - Corey gave a detailed rundown of the RV making sure I knew the basics. Everything was as described, well maintained, and just what we were looking for for our few days away. Corey was quick to respond when I had any questions and made sure everything was good. Highly recommend renting from Corey!

How to book a site
State park sites at Morrow Mountain are booked through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to six months in advance, and walk-up camping is not accepted.
Developed Uwharrie National Forest campgrounds are booked through Recreation.gov, with a limited number of first-come, first-served sites also available on the ground. Dan Nicholas Park handles campground and cabin bookings directly through Rowan County.
Private parks such as Cotton Patch RV Campground, Tamarac Marina and Campground, and Norwood Campground take reservations by phone or through their websites. For summer weekends and fall foliage stays, booking several weeks ahead is advisable, and popular lakeside sites often fill earlier.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this area are typically wooded, gravel or grass, with mature hardwoods providing shade. Cotton Patch RV Campground offers full hookups suitable for larger rigs, while some sites at Morrow Mountain State Park present leveling challenges on sloped terrain. Confirming site length and levelness at booking is smart, especially for travel trailers over 30 feet.
Hookup availability varies. Dan Nicholas Park provides electric and water at most sites with a dump station on premises, while many Uwharrie National Forest sites are non-electric with more basic services. Cell coverage is generally usable but can drop in low-lying areas near the lakes.
Bring insect repellent in warmer months, watch for ticks on wooded trails, and expect posted quiet hours in the evening. Pets are allowed at most campgrounds on leash, including at Morrow Mountain campsites, though not at the swimming pool or inside park buildings.

North Carolina does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes and travel trailers available on RVezy. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the verification is, often completed the same day you book your Uwharrie or Badin Lake getaway.
