Campgrounds and RV parks near Mountain View, NC

Mountain View is a census-designated place in western Catawba County, North Carolina, sitting inside the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton metro area at roughly 1,100 feet of elevation. The community lies just off US-321 and about a mile south of Interstate 40, which makes it a practical staging point for RV travelers heading into the Blue Ridge foothills, the Catawba River corridor, or south toward Charlotte. Most RV camping in the area sits along two axes: the I-40 corridor closer to Hickory, and the NC-18 corridor running south toward the South Mountains. Indian Springs Campground and 321 RV Park are the closest full-hookup private options, while Buffalo Creek Campground positions guests within a short drive of South Mountains State Park. The Family - South Mountains State Park campground and Green Mountain Park round out the mix with a state-park experience and a larger private-park setting. Expect a foothills setting rather than true high-mountain terrain, with humid subtropical summers, mild shoulder seasons, and generally light snowfall in winter.

North Carolina state park sites, including the Family - South Mountains State Park campground, are booked through the state's ReserveAmerica portal, and all campers must stop at the visitor center on arrival to register their vehicle and receive a hang tag. The system accepts reservations up to six months in advance. A two-night minimum applies to holiday weekends including Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Private parks in the area take reservations directly. Indian Springs Campground, 321 RV Park, Buffalo Creek Campground, and Green Mountain Park each handle bookings through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and October leaf-season weekends fill fastest, so book state-park sites several months out and private parks a few weeks ahead for peak dates.
