Campgrounds and RV parks near Neuse Forest, NC

Neuse Forest is an unincorporated community in Craven County, North Carolina, sitting between New Bern and Havelock along the north bank of the Neuse River. It borders the Croatan National Forest, one of four National Forests in North Carolina and the only true coastal forest in the East, where pine forests, saltwater estuaries, pocosins and winding rivers come together, bordered on three sides by tidal rivers and the Bogue Sound. The area gives RV travelers a compact base with access to public and private campgrounds. Dixon Landing RV Resort and Moonlight Lake RV Park and Campground sit closest to Neuse Forest itself, while New Bern KOA Holiday, Whispering Pines RV Park and Campground, and Waters Edge RV Park round out the nearby private options. Public camping is available within Croatan National Forest, most notably at the Flanners Beach area on the Neuse River. The Croatan is located between New Bern, Morehead City and the Crystal Coast, spanning 167,687 acres across Craven, Carteret and Jones Counties, which puts historic downtown New Bern, the Cherry Point area, and the Crystal Coast beaches all within a short drive of a Neuse Forest basecamp.

Private parks including Dixon Landing RV Resort, Moonlight Lake RV Park and Campground, New Bern KOA Holiday, Whispering Pines RV Park and Campground, and Waters Edge RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Booking two to three months out is reasonable for spring and fall weekends; holiday weekends and the weeks around New Bern events fill earlier. For public camping in Croatan National Forest, of the 40 sites at Flanners Beach, 7 are first-come-first-served and cannot be reserved, and remaining sites require reservations made at least 3 days in advance through Recreation.gov. Flanners Beach on the Neuse River is the primary RV-friendly option in the forest. The area is subject to closure in advance of hurricanes, and reservations are automatically cancelled and refunded in the event of a closure due to hurricanes, so keep confirmation emails and monitor forecasts if traveling in late summer or fall.
