Campgrounds and RV parks near Oriental, NC

Oriental sits at the mouth of the Neuse River in Pamlico County, where the river widens toward Pamlico Sound. The town is a working sailing harbor with a small commercial fishing fleet, and most RV camping in the area is oriented around water access rather than mountain or forest terrain. Sites tend to cluster along the Neuse, Bay River, and the Intracoastal Waterway corridor between Oriental and Beaufort. River's Edge Family Campground sits on the Bay River within Croatan National Forest country, and Natures Trace offers a quieter inland option nearby. Beaufort Waterway RV Park and Beaufort Waterfront RV place travelers on the Intracoastal side, closer to Beaufort and the Crystal Coast beaches. Dixon Landing RV Resort rounds out the local waterfront options. Croatan National Forest lies just west, and the Neuse River Recreation Area, about 12 miles south of New Bern along US 70, adds a federally managed campground within Croatan National Forest for travelers who want to combine private-park and public-land stays.

Private campgrounds around Oriental, including River's Edge Family Campground, Natures Trace, Beaufort Waterway RV Park, Beaufort Waterfront RV, and Dixon Landing RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For public land, North Carolina state park reservations run through ReserveAmerica, where a campsite can be reserved for a maximum of 14 consecutive nights within any 30-day period, after which a camper must vacate the park for 16 nights before returning. Croatan National Forest sites at the Neuse River Recreation Area include 7 first-come-first-served spots, with remaining sites requiring reservations made at least 3 days in advance through Recreation.gov.
