Campgrounds and RV parks near River Bend, NC

Water activities anchor most trips. The Neuse and Trent Rivers support boating, kayaking, and fishing, and White Oak Shores Camping and RV Resort sits close to sound and river access for saltwater outings. Freshwater swimming, paddling, and fishing are available at The Lakes RV & Cabin Resort and Moonlight Lake RV Park and Campground. Families typically pair campground time with day trips. Historic downtown New Bern includes Tryon Palace, the birthplace of Pepsi, and walkable riverfront blocks. Croatan National Forest offers hiking, wildlife viewing, and the Neusiok Trail. Fort Macon State Park and the beaches at Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and Cape Lookout National Seashore are within roughly an hour's drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of coastal North Carolina. March through May brings mild days, blooming dogwoods, and lower humidity, while September through November delivers warm water, thinner crowds after Labor Day, and generally pleasant camping weather once peak hurricane risk eases. Summer is the busiest season. Schools are out, beaches are packed, and coastal campgrounds including Dixon Landing RV Resort and White Oak Shores Camping and RV Resort book up early. Expect hot, humid days, afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy mosquito and biting-fly activity near marshes and pine flatwoods. Hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest activity typically in August and September. Winters are short and mild by North American standards. Many private parks stay open year-round with reduced amenities, and snowbird stays are common. Freezing nights occur but rarely last, and freshwater fishing and forest hiking remain viable through the cooler months.

Terrain is flat, sandy, and heavily wooded with pine and hardwood. Most private RV parks in the New Bern area offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, laundry, Wi-Fi, and family amenities such as pools and playgrounds. Cell service is generally reliable near town and along US-70, but can weaken deeper in Croatan National Forest. Bring bug spray, especially at dusk from late spring through early fall. Ticks, mosquitoes, and yellow flies are common near water and forest. Summer thunderstorms can be intense, so secure awnings and outdoor gear. Fuel, groceries, propane, and RV service are readily available in New Bern, Havelock, and Morehead City, making this a straightforward area for first-time renters.
