Campgrounds and RV parks near Valdese, NC

Valdese sits in Burke County in the western North Carolina foothills, roughly 18 miles east of Morganton and within an hour of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The area gives RV renters a base for two very different camping styles: private RV parks with hookups along the Catawba River corridor, and rustic state-park sites tucked into the South Mountains and Linville Gorge foothills. Riverside Golf and RV Park offers convenient hookup camping close to town and interstate access along I-40. For a more natural setting, South Mountains State Park is located in Burke County 55 miles east of Asheville, with the Family Campground reachable in under an hour from Valdese. Indian Springs Campground, Green Mountain Park, and Buffalo Creek Campground round out the nearby private options, each catering to travelers who want a quieter foothills stay. Most renters use Valdese as a launch point for day trips: waterfalls and mountain-bike trails at South Mountains, boating and swimming at Lake James, and driving loops onto the Blue Ridge Parkway once seasonal closures lift.

State park sites in this region use the North Carolina State Parks system through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made for today and up to 6 months in advance, so book as early as the window opens for weekends between April and October. Family - South Mountains State Park has a small number of RV-capable sites: sites 17 and 18 have 50-amp electric hookups but no water or sewer, while the other 16 campsites have no utilities. Holiday weekends carry a 2-night minimum stay for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Private options such as Riverside Golf and RV Park, Indian Springs Campground, Green Mountain Park, and Buffalo Creek Campground take reservations directly through their operators and are the better choice for larger rigs needing full hookups.
