Campgrounds and RV parks near Yadkinville, NC

Outdoor activities center on the Yadkin River and the surrounding state parks. Pilot Mountain rises abruptly more than 2,000 feet above the Piedmont, and its two sections offer hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and paddling or fishing on the Yadkin River. Stone Mountain State Park, about 40 minutes northwest, features a 600-foot granite dome, waterfalls, more than 18 miles of trails, and over 20 miles of designated trout waters. Wine country is the other main draw. The Yadkin Valley AVA spans several counties and includes more than 40 wineries, with family-friendly stops like Divine Llama Vineyards in East Bend combining tastings with a working llama farm. Historic Mount Airy, the inspiration for Mayberry, sits about 30 minutes north and pairs well with a stop at a winery near Pilot Mountain. Closer to camp, sections of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail offer flat walking and river access suitable for kids and pets.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. From March through May, days warm quickly and wildflowers and vineyard bud-break draw weekend visitors. Mid-May coincides with the annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival in Elkin, held the third Saturday of May, and rooms and sites fill early around that weekend. Summer runs warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. State-park campgrounds see their heaviest demand, so reservations well in advance and early arrival are advisable, especially on weekends. Fall brings cooler nights, foliage through the foothills, and harvest events across the valley. Winters are cold but generally mild by mountain standards, with occasional snow. Many private RV parks stay open year-round, though services may be limited during winter months. State-park family campgrounds operate on shortened seasons: Pilot Mountain's family campground runs from March 15 through November 30, while its canoe-in sites on the Yadkin River remain open year-round. Stone Mountain's campground is open year-round.

Roads in and around Yadkinville are generally in good condition, with I-77 and US-421 providing straightforward access for larger rigs. Most campground approaches use paved or well-maintained gravel surfaces suitable for standard vehicles. Cell service is reliable in town and along the interstates but can drop in the foothills. Private parks in the area typically offer full hookups, laundry, and pet areas. State-park campgrounds are more rustic. Pilot Mountain's family campground has 42 sites among oaks and hickories, with tent pads, tables, and fire pit grills, plus flush toilets and hot-water showers; the terrain is sloped, so some sites are more level than others. Stone Mountain's campground has 88 sites, 41 with electric hookups, plus a dump station. Pets are welcome at both state parks on a leash no longer than six feet. Bring bug spray in summer and layers for cool foothill evenings in spring and fall.
