RV camping near Andover, Ohio
Andover sits in Ashtabula County in northeast Ohio, on the western shore of Pymatuning Reservoir. The lake straddles the Ohio and Pennsylvania border and is the region's dominant recreation draw, with campgrounds, marinas, and a spillway known for fish that feed on bread thrown by visitors. Most RV activity in the area clusters around the lake rather than the village itself.
Campgrounds within a short drive include Lake Village at Pymatuning, Pymatuning State Park Campground, Andover / Pymatuning Lake KOA Holiday, Pymatuning Adventure, and Meadow Lake Campground. Options range from full-hookup private resorts to state park sites with a mix of electric and non-electric hookups and shared bathhouses.
Andover works well for renters who want lake access without the crowds of larger Great Lakes destinations. The area is roughly an hour from Erie, Pennsylvania, and about 75 minutes from Cleveland, making it a practical weekend base for families and anglers traveling with an RV.
Things to do around Pymatuning Lake
The reservoir supports boating, kayaking, and fishing for walleye, muskellunge, crappie, and bass. Rental boats and pontoons are available at marinas on both the Ohio and Pennsylvania shores. The Linesville spillway, on the Pennsylvania side, is a long-standing family stop where carp and waterfowl compete for bread.
On land, the state parks offer swimming beaches, picnic areas, and multi-use trails suitable for kids and casual cyclists. The Pymatuning Wildlife Learning Center and nearby fish hatchery add a rainy-day option.
Off the water, Andover has a small commercial center with diners, hardware, and grocery stops for provisioning. Amish-country farm markets in northern Trumbull and southern Ashtabula counties are within an easy drive.

The main RV season runs from late April or early May through mid-October, matching the operating schedule of most private resorts around Pymatuning. Pymatuning State Park Campground on the Ohio side stays open year-round, though heated restrooms and limited water service replace full amenities during the coldest months.
Summer is peak season. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill quickly, especially waterfront and full-hookup sites, and reservations should be made well in advance. Walleye anglers push demand in spring, and fall brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and color along the wooded shoreline through October.
Winter camping is limited to hardy travelers. Snowbelt conditions off Lake Erie can bring heavy lake-effect snow to Ashtabula County, and most private campgrounds close or reduce services from November through March. Renters traveling in shoulder months should confirm hookup availability and road access before booking.

Used James' toy hauler off grid for 3 days. Battery and generator worked well. Hot water for showers too. Everything worked as listed. James delivered and set up the camper at the campground for us and was very easy and professional to work with.

How to book
Sites at Pymatuning State Park Campground on the Ohio side are booked through ReserveOhio, which opens a rolling window up to six months ahead of arrival, or by calling (866) 644-6727. Prime waterfront and full-hookup sites for summer weekends often sell out within minutes of becoming available.
Andover / Pymatuning Lake KOA Holiday takes reservations directly through the KOA website or app, and Lake Village at Pymatuning, Pymatuning Adventure, and Meadow Lake Campground handle bookings through their own websites or by phone.
When reserving, confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and whether the site is pull-through or back-in. Holiday weekends often carry minimum-night stays, and pet, campfire, and quiet-hour policies vary between the state park and private operators.
What to expect on arrival
Roads into the campgrounds are paved to the entrance, with gravel or packed-dirt interior loops typical at the state park and some private resorts. Most sites accommodate travel trailers and Class C motorhomes comfortably; larger Class A rigs should verify site length and overhead clearance in advance.
Cell coverage around Pymatuning is generally usable but inconsistent between carriers, and Wi-Fi at private campgrounds is best treated as light-duty. Bring drinking water hoses, a surge protector, and leveling blocks, as sites vary in grade.
Biting insects are active from late spring through early fall, and evenings near the water can be cool even in July. Firewood should be bought locally to comply with regional pest rules that restrict moving wood across county and state lines.
