Camping near Belpre, Ohio
Belpre sits on the north bank of the Ohio River directly across from Parkersburg, West Virginia, placing RV travelers within reach of full-hookup river-town parks and forested state park camping in southeast Ohio's Appalachian foothills. The area works well as a base for touring the Mid-Ohio Valley, Marietta's historic district, and Blennerhassett Island, which sits in the river just downstream of town.
RV options close to town lean toward year-round, full-hookup private parks. Blennerhassett RV Park is open year-round with 77 full hookup RV sites, large level concrete pads on paved tree-lined streets, and sits across the street from the Ohio River on an 11-acre property. American Way RV Park, Ashland RV Park, and Castle Care Campground add nearby private options for shorter turnarounds and longer stays.
For a state-park experience, Forked Run State Park lies south of Belpre along State Route 124 near the Ohio River. The family campground offers 143 campsites in five camping areas set amidst rustic, rolling surroundings, with lake swimming, boating, and hiking on site.
Things to do around Belpre
The signature day trip is Blennerhassett Island. Access is via a 20-minute sternwheeler ride on the Island Belle departing from Point Park in Parkersburg, and once on the island visitors can tour the reconstructed Palladian mansion, walk the grounds, and take horse-drawn wagon rides. A launch ramp for motorized and non-motorized watercraft is available at Civitan Park in Belpre, which lets paddlers reach the island on their own.
At Forked Run State Park, a sand beach on the 102-acre lake offers swimming. There is no set horsepower limit on the lake, but boats over 10 horsepower must operate at no-wake speed, keeping the water quiet for fishing. Two launch ramps serve the lake and a third provides access to the Ohio River. Anglers target largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish.
Marietta, a short drive upriver, adds historic districts, sternwheeler tours, and river-museum stops for rainy afternoons.

Late spring through mid-fall is the practical camping window. Summer brings warm, humid days and the full slate of river attractions: Blennerhassett Island runs a set season, with public excursions available from May through the last weekend of October on a varying schedule. Weekends around Independence Day and regional festivals fill private RV parks first, so book several weeks out.
Spring is green and wet, with wildflowers along Forked Run and Shade River trails. May is typically the wettest month in the Mid-Ohio Valley, and short thunderstorms can pop up on summer afternoons. Fall delivers the region's strongest color, with oaks, hickories, maples, and other hardwoods turning across the ridges through October.
Winter camping is possible but limited. At Forked Run, Area 1 is the only camping area open from November 1 through April 1, with reduced services and limited showerhouse availability through the cold months. Full-hookup private parks in Belpre generally stay open year-round for travelers who need power and water in cold weather.
How to book a site
For Forked Run State Park, use the Ohio State Parks reservation system. Reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727. Summer weekends and holiday windows are the first to sell out, so pick dates as soon as the six-month window opens if a specific loop or electric site matters.
Private parks around Belpre take direct bookings by phone or through their own websites and third-party platforms. Blennerhassett RV Park, American Way RV Park, Ashland RV Park, and Castle Care Campground each handle their own inventory, and many sites are held for longer-stay guests, so calling ahead is the fastest way to confirm a rig-length fit and hookup type.
Have RV length, slide count, and amp service ready when booking, and confirm pet policies at time of reservation.
What to expect on site
Private RV parks in Belpre skew toward level, full-hookup sites with paved or concrete pads and a quieter, longer-stay atmosphere. Full hookup sites typically include 30 and 50 amp service, sewer connections, and city water, and larger rigs are accommodated. Cell service is generally reliable near the river and downtown.
Forked Run is a more rustic experience. The campground offers 79 electric sites, 64 non-electric sites, showers, vault latrines, a dump station, and playgrounds. Sites are set on wooded ridges, and campers have reported uneven pads in places, so bring leveling blocks and expect a state-park (not resort) feel.
Terrain is rolling, roads are paved but winding on the approach to Forked Run, and larger fifth-wheels should scout site dimensions before committing.
