Campgrounds near Devola, Ohio
Devola is an unincorporated community in Washington County, Ohio, sitting just north of Marietta along the Muskingum River. RV travelers use it as a quiet base for exploring southeast Ohio's river valleys, the historic Muskingum lock system, and the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio Rivers a few miles downstream.
Options close to town lean toward small, privately run parks with hookups. Devola is largely residential, a departure from busier Marietta but within about 10 miles of shops, restaurants, and other conveniences, which makes it practical for travelers who want quiet overnight sites near town amenities. Ashland RV Park, Castle Care Campground, and American Way RV Park serve travelers on the Ohio side, while Blennerhassett RV Park sits across the river near Parkersburg, West Virginia.
For a state-park experience, Luke Chute Lock 5 - Muskingum River State Park offers rustic riverside camping upstream. There are eight boaters-only, primitive campsites at Lock #5, Luke Chute, so access is best suited to travelers arriving by boat rather than by road.
Things to do near Devola
The Muskingum River corridor is the main draw. Visitors get out on either the Ohio or Muskingum Rivers, and Marietta attracts recreational boaters and paddlers. Kayak and bike rentals are available in downtown Marietta, and short paddles from local access points are a common option for families.
On land, the Marietta riverfront bike path runs along the Muskingum and Ohio Rivers with views of the city and waterfront. North of town, the Broughton Nature and Wildlife Education Area is a preserve with hiking and mountain biking trails, ponds, and disc golf, accessible from the Devola area.
Historic downtown Marietta adds museums, the Campus Martius Museum, and Mound Cemetery for a low-key rainy-day plan.

Summers around Marietta are warm and humid, and winters are short, cold, and snowy, with partly cloudy skies year round. The best window for RV travel generally runs from mid-April through mid-October, which lines up with peak river season.
Late spring and early summer bring the heaviest rain. June is typically the wettest month, which can affect river levels, boat launches, and unpaved sites. Peak weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill quickly at private RV parks, so booking well in advance is recommended. The Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in Marietta in early September draws large crowds and books out lodging across the region.
Winter camping is limited. Muskingum River State Park lock campgrounds close from November 1 through March 31, and many private parks reduce services or shut down. Fall is a strong shoulder-season pick, with cooler nights and color along the river valleys, though frost typically sets in by late October.
How to book near Devola
Private parks around Devola and Marietta, including Ashland RV Park, Castle Care Campground, American Way RV Park, and Blennerhassett RV Park across the river, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Summer weekends and festival dates should be booked several weeks out at minimum.
For Muskingum River State Park sites, including Luke Chute Lock 5, reservations run through the Ohio State Parks system at reserveohio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727. Campsites can be booked up to six months in advance. Camping at Ellis Lock #11 closes for the winter season from November 1 to March 31, and all lock areas permit camping to boaters in transit on the Muskingum River.
Cancellations are common in this system, so mid-week arrivals often open up even during busy periods.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Devola are a mix of level, hookup-equipped private parks and rustic state-park riverside pads. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Marietta and drops off in the deeper hollows upstream. Roads into most private parks are paved or well-graded gravel, but river-lock sites can be tight for larger rigs, with a 30-foot maximum length at Muskingum River State Park sites.
At the lock campgrounds, water, picnic tables, fire rings, and latrines are provided, and there are no hookups. Sites are non-electric and primitive. Pets are permitted at Ellis Lock #11, and standard state-park rules on leashes, quiet hours, and vehicle limits apply.
Bring bug spray in summer and a rain plan in spring.

Booking an RV rental in Devola is low risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every trip, not the individual host. That means you get a consistent, transparent experience regardless of which Washington County listing you choose. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional flexibility based on how far out your trip is. You won't see a cancellation policy listed on individual RVs because it's handled at the platform level. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates for popular weekends like the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in Marietta, knowing you have a clear policy if life shifts.

Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Devola welcome dogs and even cats. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to narrow your search, then message the host to share your pup's size and breed. Devola is a fantastic launchpad for four-legged adventurers: the Marietta River Trail along Front Street is leash-friendly and runs right next to the Muskingum River, and Wayne National Forest's Marietta Unit has miles of dog-welcome trails just minutes from town. Most regional campgrounds, including Landings Family Campground and Marietta RV Park, allow leashed pets too. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a long lead so your dog can enjoy riverside sniff time between hikes.
fs.usda.gov/recmain/wayne/recreationCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Devola?
Yes, RV delivery in Devola is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who'd rather skip driving a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer directly to nearby campgrounds like Marietta RV Park on Front Street, Landings Family Campground on Sterling Road, or the Washington County Fairgrounds, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and electric, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message your host with the exact campsite number once you've booked. Pro tip: delivery fees usually scale with distance, so picking a campground within 15 miles of Devola keeps costs low and your stress lower.
mariettaohio.org/directory/marietta-rv-park/How many miles can I drive each day, and is unlimited mileage available?

For reference, Devola sits 12 miles from Marietta's historic downtown, 55 miles from Hocking Hills State Park, 90 miles from Columbus, 130 miles from Pittsburgh, and about 160 miles from Cincinnati. Pro tip: map your full loop before booking, then filter listings by mileage allowance. fs.usda.gov/recarea/wayne/recreation/camping-cabinsWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Devola?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Devola, and October is genuinely magical thanks to Appalachian foothills foliage. Spring (April to May) brings highs in the 60s and 70s with wildflowers along the Muskingum River. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, perfect for kayaking and Ohio River sternwheel cruises. Fall (September to October) cools to the 60s and 70s with vibrant colors throughout Wayne National Forest. Winter brings highs in the 30s to 40s with occasional snow, but several local parks stay open year-round. Pro tip: book your Devola RV trip for the second weekend of September to catch the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in Marietta.
weather.gov/rlx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and Devola is honestly an ideal place for your first time renting an RV. The roads around the village are quiet, two-lane country routes with gentle grades along the Muskingum River, much less stressful than a big-city debut. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering the propane, water, electrical, slide-outs, generator, and dump procedures, and you'll leave with their phone number for quick questions. If you're nervous about driving, choose a Class B campervan or a smaller travel trailer, or book a host offering delivery so the RV is waiting and set up when you arrive. Pro tip: practice a few right-hand turns and reverses in the Washington County Fairgrounds lot before heading out.
transportation.ohio.gov/working/operations/traffic-operationsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You're never alone out there. Every RV rental in Devola booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, or lockout on State Route 60 is just one call away from help. Your host is also a great first contact for quirks specific to that RV, and RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Save both phone numbers in your contacts before you leave the driveway. Pro tip: Devola sits close to Marietta Memorial Hospital and several auto shops on Pike Street, so if something does come up, you're rarely far from services, even when exploring Wayne National Forest's more remote corners.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV across state lines or into Canada from Devola?
Yes, an RV road trip from Devola crosses state lines easily, and you've got some of the best multi-state routes in the country right at your doorstep. West Virginia is literally across the Ohio River, Pennsylvania is about 90 miles northeast, and Kentucky is roughly three hours south. Many hosts also allow travel to Canada with advance notice, just message them before booking so coverage and paperwork can be confirmed. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because coverage doesn't extend there. Popular routes from Devola include the Ohio River Scenic Byway, the Mountaineer Country loop into West Virginia, and a Pittsburgh-to-Devola weekend run. Pro tip: confirm cross-border plans in the booking message thread for a written record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Devola RV trip is straightforward. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and trucks pulling travel trailers around 10 to 14 mpg. Ohio gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and there are several convenient stations on State Route 60 in Devola and Pike Street in Marietta where larger rigs can fuel up easily. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $100 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: download GasBuddy before you leave and fill up in Marietta or Belpre rather than waiting until you're deep in Wayne National Forest, where stations are sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
For the best campgrounds near Devola, two to four months ahead is the sweet spot, and Ohio State Parks like Forked Run and Wolf Run can be booked up to six months in advance through the official ReserveOhio system. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) and the September sternwheel festival weekend in Marietta sell out fastest. Wayne National Forest sites like Hune Bridge and Lane Farm are first-come, first-served, so arrive by early Friday afternoon in peak season. Private parks like Marietta RV Park and Landings take direct reservations by phone or online. Pro tip: book your campground first, then your RV on RVezy, that way you can filter for a rig that fits the site's length and hookup type.
reserveohio.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Devola?
Driving conditions around Devola are very RV-friendly. The main routes (State Route 60, State Route 26, and Interstate 77 just west of town) are well-maintained, and traffic is light compared to any Ohio metro area. Expect rolling Appalachian foothills with some moderate grades on country roads heading into Wayne National Forest, and a few low-clearance covered bridges in the Little Muskingum valley you'll want to route around. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, and slow down in summer thunderstorms which can drop heavy rain quickly. Winter brings occasional snow and ice, so check the Ohio Department of Transportation's OHGO traffic site before traveling November through March. Pro tip: stick to numbered state routes with larger rigs and save the narrow backroads for scenic day drives in a smaller vehicle.
ohgo.com/What hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Devola offer?
Most campgrounds near Devola offer the full package. Marietta RV Park has full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) plus WiFi, and Landings Family Campground provides full hookups with pull-throughs sized for big rigs. Castle Care Campground on Browns Road has 30-amp electric and water with pet-friendly sites, and Washington County Fairgrounds offers electric and water. For dump stations and freshwater fill-ups between trips, Marietta RV Park and Landings both allow non-guest use for a small fee. Wayne National Forest sites like Hune Bridge are primitive with vault toilets only, so fill your fresh tank in town first. Pro tip: ask your host to top off propane before pickup, and keep a 25-foot sewer hose and a water pressure regulator handy for older campground spigots.
washingtongov.org/697/Park-Camp-CampgroundsWhat features and amenities come with RVs in Devola?
RVs available in Devola come surprisingly well-equipped. Expect real beds (most sleep four to eight), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, furnace heat, and a dinette that converts to additional sleeping. Many motorhome rentals in Devola also include onboard generators for boondocking, awnings for shade, outdoor speakers, and TVs with DVD players. Some hosts add WiFi hotspots, solar panels, and bike racks. Seatbelts are required for every passenger while driving, and motorhomes typically have between four and seven belted seats. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and bathroom type on RVezy, then message the host to confirm generator hours and whether bedding and kitchen kits are included.
bmv.ohio.gov/seatbelt-laws.aspxWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Devola RV rental?
Plenty. When you rent an RV in Devola, hosts commonly offer add-ons like bedding and towel kits, kitchen and dish packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators, bike racks, kayaks, and even stargazing telescopes. Delivery and setup is a popular option, especially for first-timers heading to Marietta RV Park or Landings Family Campground. Pickup is typically at the host's location in Devola or nearby Marietta, with check-in and return times set by the host in the listing. Mileage allowances range from 100 miles per night to unlimited. Pro tip: bundle add-ons into one message to the host before booking. Many will discount the package if you grab two or three at once.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Devola,OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy processes everything through the platform with your credit or debit card, so there's no cash handoff with the host. You'll pay the booking total, which includes nightly rate, service fee, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after return once the host confirms everything is in order. The deposit is separate from your booking payment. To avoid deposit issues, do a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks at an approved dump station. Pro tip: keep dump-station receipts as proof that wastewater was handled correctly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Devola?
A family RV trip from Devola opens up some of the most scenic country in the Midwest. Top routes include: Hocking Hills State Park (about 55 miles west) for waterfalls, Old Man's Cave, and rock formations; Wayne National Forest's Marietta Unit (10 to 25 miles out) with covered bridges and the Ohio River Scenic Byway; Salt Fork State Park (about 50 miles north) for 20,000 acres of lake and wilderness; Pittsburgh, PA (about 130 miles northeast) for a city weekend with riverside RV parking; and New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia (about 170 miles south) for whitewater and the iconic bridge. Pro tip: pair Hocking Hills midweek with a Marietta weekend to dodge crowds at both, a true insider's loop only locals know.
