Campgrounds near Hopedale, Ohio
Hopedale sits in Harrison County in eastern Ohio, within easy reach of the wooded hills and reservoirs of the upper Ohio Valley. RV travelers use it as a quiet base between the Ohio River corridor and the lakes managed by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD).
The closest public campground is Main - Jefferson Lake State Park, an Ohio State Parks property set in oak and hickory hills. The 962-acre park is one of Ohio's quieter parks, tucked into wooded terrain that offers privacy in all seasons. West of town, Tappan Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist and Petersburg Marina Muskingum Conservancy District sit on MWCD reservoirs originally built for flood control in the 1930s.
Private options round out the area. Big Gs RV Campground and Zion Retreat and RV Park serve travelers who want hookups and a simpler check-in than the state or watershed systems. Together, the mix covers primitive tent pads, electric sites for smaller trailers, and full-hookup pull-throughs suited to larger motorhomes.
Things to do near Hopedale
Water recreation drives most trips. Tappan Lake is a popular destination for boating, fishing, swimming, and camping, and MWCD operates Tappan Lake Park with a public beach, boat launch ramp, docking facilities, hiking trails, and picnic areas. A 399 horsepower limit is enforced on Tappan Lake under Ohio Administrative Code, so waterskiing and tubing are common on the 2,350-acre reservoir.
At Jefferson Lake State Park, the pace is slower. Non-motorized boats and boats with electric motors up to four horsepower are permitted on the 17-acre lake, and the park has hiking and multi-use trails and fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and redear sunfish.
Off the water, day trips reach the National Road corridor, the Fort Steuben area along the Ohio River, and Amish Country to the west near Sugarcreek and Berlin.

The main RV season in eastern Ohio runs from late April through October. Tappan Lake Park operates a full camping season with peak months from May through September, and holiday weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book earliest. The Tappan Lake Park beach is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, which anchors summer demand for lakeside sites.
Shoulder-season travel in April, May, and September offers cooler nights and lighter crowds, though services shrink. Late-fall and winter stays at MWCD parks typically require freshwater onboard, since water lines at many hookup sites are shut down once freezing weather sets in.
Jefferson Lake State Park Campground operates year-round, with electric sites limited to five spots that fill quickly on summer weekends. Long-term seasonal sites at MWCD parks also reduce weekend inventory in peak months, so weekend planners should book early or watch for cancellations.

How to book a site near Hopedale
Reservation systems differ by operator. For Main - Jefferson Lake State Park, use the Ohio State Parks system: reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727. The main loop has 5 electric sites and 44 non-electric sites, so electric inventory is tight and books first.
For Tappan Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist and Petersburg Marina Muskingum Conservancy District, book through the MWCD reservation portal at reserve.mwcd.org. The reservation holder must be at least 18 years or older and must be an occupant on the site, check-in time for camping and cabins is 4:00 PM, and camping check-out is 2:00 PM.
Big Gs RV Campground and Zion Retreat and RV Park are private parks; book directly with the operator by phone or their website.
What to expect on site
Hookup levels vary widely. Tappan Lake Park offers class A full-hookup sites and class A electric sites across more than 500 campsites, along with a laundry, camp store, playground, and dump station. Newer full-hookup sections have level, paved pads suited to larger rigs.
Jefferson Lake is more rustic. Latrines, water fountains, picnic tables, and horse tie lines are provided, most sites are non-electric, and a dump station is available on site, so plan for generator hours and fresh-water fills before arrival.
Pets are allowed in camping areas at MWCD parks and must be on a leash no greater than 6 feet at all times, and pets cannot be left unattended in a vehicle or on the campsite. Cell coverage in the surrounding hills is spotty; download maps before leaving town.
