Campgrounds and RV parks near Lowell, OH

Lowell sits on the Muskingum River in Washington County, southeastern Ohio, about fifteen minutes upstream from Marietta. The surrounding region is part of the unglaciated Appalachian Plateau, with hardwood ridges, small lakes, and the historic Muskingum River lock-and-dam system running past town. RV travelers use Lowell as a base for river access, Wayne National Forest day trips, and short drives to state park campgrounds northwest and north of the city. Private options closest to town include Ashland RV Park and Castle Care Campground, both suited to travelers who want hookups near the river corridor. For public land, Luke Chute Lock 5 offers primitive, boaters-only campsites within Muskingum River State Park, while Wolf Run State Park near Caldwell provides a developed campground with electric and non-electric sites on a 220-acre lake. West toward McConnelsville, Sawmill Road at Jesse Owens State Park delivers free primitive camping inside a large reclaimed-mine wildlife area, useful for self-contained rigs comfortable without hookups.

Ohio state park sites are booked through ReserveOhio, the state's official reservation platform, or by phone. Reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727. This applies to Wolf Run State Park and to the reservable Muskingum River lock campgrounds. Wolf Run State Park Campground offers electric and non-electric sites, and reservations are required. Jesse Owens State Park runs differently. The park offers four no-fee campgrounds, campers follow a self-registration process, and campsites are occupied on a first-come, first-served basis with a two-week maximum stay. Sawmill Road is one of these campgrounds. Private campgrounds such as Ashland RV Park and Castle Care Campground are booked directly with the operator. Summer weekends and fall foliage weekends fill first, so reserve early for holiday weekends.
