Campgrounds and RV parks near Struthers, OH

Water recreation anchors the area. Unlimited horsepower boating is permitted on portions of the 7,850-acre lake, though no skiing, tubing, or PWC is allowed north of the State Route 88 causeway, and five launch ramps provide access to the lake. Fishing is popular throughout the year with plentiful catches of walleye, bass, crappie, and northern pike. Mosquito Lake State Park also has a 600-foot sandy beach open for swimming in summer, an 18-hole disc golf course, archery range, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes, and playgrounds, plus a 5-acre dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs and direct lake access for swimming. Closer to Struthers, Yellow Creek Park spans a 76-acre gorge in the heart of Struthers and is managed by Mill Creek MetroParks, with hiking trails, picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, and a playground. Pickleball courts have been added to the existing tennis courts at Yellow Creek Park. Mill Creek MetroParks, historic Lanterman's Mill, and Fellows Riverside Gardens are all within a short drive.

Peak RV season in the Struthers area runs from late May through early October, when private campgrounds are fully staffed and Mosquito Lake State Park operates with all amenities open. Mosquito Lake State Park Campground provides year-round camping, with full amenities from April through October, including modern showerhouses with flush toilets and a two-lane dump station with fresh water fill-up. Summer weekends and holiday weekends fill first, especially lakeside sites, so booking several weeks ahead is wise. Shoulder seasons offer cooler temperatures and thinner crowds. Fall color across northeast Ohio typically peaks in mid to late October, making it a strong window for hiking and lake fishing. Spring can be wet, and Chestnut Ridge is open May 1 through October 1, so some private campgrounds do not open until May. Winter camping is limited but possible at the state park. From November 1 to April 1, the full-service sites do not have water at the site, fees are reduced accordingly, water is available at the dump station, and showerhouses are closed for winter season with pit latrines available. Lake-effect snow off Lake Erie can hit the region hard between December and February, so travelers should watch forecasts and road conditions.

Expect a mix of wooded private parks and one large lake-based state campground, all within easy reach of Youngstown-area supplies, groceries, and fuel. Sites at Mosquito Lake range from open lakeshore to shaded woodland loops, and some of the sites have lakeshore views and many sites are well shaded. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the region. Rules are straightforward. Quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a maximum of two vehicles per site, and a camping trailer or motorhome counts as one vehicle. The state park campground allows pets on all sites, typically with a two-pet maximum, and pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet and attended at all times. Mosquitos and ticks are common in summer near lakes and marshes, so bring repellent. Firewood is typically sold on site; check local rules before bringing wood from outside the region.
